| Thanks Cal, Yes, I have four Money files. I understand you to have said that all of BIL's online accounts must have online access disabled until I am able to remove my passport. I have printed 899631 and will follow it to remove my passport. Then I can enable online access for all of the accounts by simply turning on background banking at Tools-> Settings-> AccessYourMoneyDataOnTheWeb and then File-PasswordManager where I can use BIL's unique Passport. Have I got this right? Normally to have four data sets, you would have four Money files. If> everything manually. I have been using Money 2006 and have been updating > everything on-line. OK. I had concentrated on the loud part. What you want to do is to> 2004. So I put his data set on a thumb drive and took it over to his house > to import the several years of data into Money 2004. It worked fine as long as I used my password. remove your Passport from the BIL file. This would involve disabling online access for all of the a accounts where the access is via third party. http://www.microsoft.com/money/bankonline.aspx can distinguish. Then to remove the Passport from a file you may have to turn off background banking at Tools-> Settings-> AccessYourMoneyDataOnTheWeb and then File-PasswordManager you can choose to remove your Passport. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899631/en-us If you were not using different files, delete the accounts that should not be in BIL's file. If BIL wants to access some accounts that require third party help, he can create and use his own LiveID/Passport. When he sets up such an account for online access again, that will take place. - quote - > OK fine, but I want him to have his own legal copy of Money, registered in > his name. Your plan should work fine, if Money 2008 follows past patterns. Good work helping out. Don't forget to get them to use a good backup strategy, and don't forget that hard drives can fail. - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: > > In microsoft.public.money, Al Baldwin wrote: > > > > Here's my question: WHEN MONEY 2008 COMES OUT, WE WILL BUY TWO > > > COPIES, ONE FOR HIM AND ONE FOR ME. | Sorry Cal-- I kept getting dropped or at least I thought I was. Were you able to see my entire, lengthy post before you answered or just the part of the post I see with your repl? | My brother-in-law (BIL)has been using Money 2004 but has been posting everything manually. I have been using Money 2006 and have been updating everything on-line. I have been keeping the (Money) books for myself, my daughter, my son and my BIL and in essence have had 4 separate data sets using Money 2006. My data set was the only one that has been used to download credit card, bank, brokerage and other downloadable account data. On the other hand the data sets for my daughter, my son and my BIL were used for one purpose only; to download brokerage (and IRA) account data only. Recently, my BIL decided he wanted to start downloading everything using 2004. So I put his data set on a thumb drive and took it over to his house to import the several years of data into Money 2004. It didn't work. Furthermore I found out that his 2004 had many apparently insoluble problems. Si I went home and got my Money 2006 installation CD. Back to BIL's house to install it. It worked fine as long as I used my password. OK fine, but I want him to have his own legal copy of Money, registered in his name. Here's my question: WHEN MONEY 2008 COMES OUT, WE WILL BUY TWO COPIES, ONE FOR HIM AND ONE FOR ME. WHEN HE REGISTERS HIS COPY WILL HE BE ABLE TO MOVE HIS DATA FROM THE MONEY 2006 APPLICATION WHICH I HAVE TEMPORARILY SET UP FOR HIM ON HIS COMPUTER? |
