Did you reboot the computer yet?

If so and the problem still exists, with Money closed, try copying
your .mny file to a different name. Try opening that copy by
double-clicking that file in Windows Explorer.




Here is the backup strategy that I would suggest for Money 2005. You
might as well do it now, since there is no sense re-writing your
backup each time you close while the problem exists:

In Tools-> Settings-> BackupOptions
I suggest checking
x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit
x Prompt me before backing up each time*
x Make my file small ...

Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your
latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a
CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise
use the burning software that came with your CDR drive.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive also, in addition to
backing up to your hard drive. They typically act like a big
floppy. For a more automated way to make multiple backups, see
Glyn Simpson's method at http://money.mvps.org/backup.aspx


* This has two advantages. You can change the file name
occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money070711.
Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The
..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that, with
Money 2005, you can choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind
about exiting by simply clicking the X in the upper right of the
pop-up box.

That's good news about multiple back-ups in 2007 and a good reason to upgrade.

I've tried the standard filerepair but it won't work. The error message is
"File failed to open. The file may in use by another process. Please wait a
few minutes and try again, or restart your computer and try again".

Any more suggestions?

First, review your backup policy. Money 2007 keeps the 4 most recent
backups by default, and you can increase that number.

For the problem now, see if
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> StandardFileRepair level 2 helps.

I've run Money 2005 for two years without a problem. However, my update to
Fidelity Investments failed on 7/17/07 at 7:49 PM. I tried to update
yesterday (7/18) but it wouldn't run and the message was "You cannot perform
this operation right now. Please complete the current task and try again".
I tried again today and have the same problem. My account view shows the
message "Updatein Progress". Any suggests? My back-up file is no good as my
repeated offorts caused the file to be overwritten with the corrupted (?)
file. Please help.
