especially once you realize what MS is doing is restoring
functionality promised at the time of sale.
All of the banks I used remained on the "will work directly with Money
2007" list even after they implemented the "extra security layer" and
broke automatic downloads into Money.

Thanks for the heads-up. I last used Money 2007 on 18 July. Today (26 July),
I launched Money and was greeted with the "Critical Banking Update". I
immediately came to this newsgroup and began browsing. Seems like a lot of
people are complaining about the experience.

How will this update--and the work that it appears will be required for me
to re-gain use of the product actually "improve the online banking
experience"? I see this phrase mentioned all over the place on the various
web pages, but it's not clear that my experience will actually improve
afterward. Can you elaborate? How will the average user benefit from this
change? Thanks.

Default Note: Those who download statements via "third party" (Yodlee)

There is a significant change coming Thursday 19 July at the servers
which provide the statements for those institutions that don't
provide their own OFX servers. Those are listed as having service
"provided by a third party provider" at
http://www.microsoft.com/money/bankonline.aspx .

See the "Scheduled Events" section of
http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com...orkstatus.aspx
for information. That site will be updated as things progress. That
will include specific instructions of what the user will need to do.

In the mean time, just make sure your backups are current. Then
expect to take some further action after an interval of downtime.
Hopefully this will result in better behavior for those downloads.
