I'm so fed up completely at this point with PCs, I'm probably buying a Mac,
but in the meantime.............This is my 7th pc(4th Dell).

Aside from other unbearable issues(software), I still have to solve on other
Microsoft discussion groups, I will address one problem at a time.


My Money program is set up to update to my bank from the money site. It
recognizes most of my accounts with the exception of one. I can't figure why
it won't recognize it.

The problem of not being able to save is when I'm ready to close out, it
asks me to save in two different places. Normally on the second, I would
have hoped to save on a removable media, but it keeps saying c: drive. I've
already saved on the first step on the hard drive.

So now what?
I use XP.
I've never owned or used a flash drive. I assume those are the tiny little
travelling items. Is this better to use than cds or dvds?

I had originally assumed he was referring to the backup to a
removable drive, because there is such a bug in Money 2007. But I
don't think there such a bug for the backup upon close to the
non-removable hard drive.

Here is how I think Money 2007 backup works when you have more than
the specified number of backup files already on your hard drive.

In Tools-> Settings-> BackupSettings suppose you select
x Automatically backup my Money file every time I close Money
SaveIn: C:\Documents and Settings\Cal\My Documents\Cal Backup
Keep only the _4_most recent backup files [default for example]

First, Money will only be looking at existing backup files that
start with the name specified in the SaveIn box.

Upon exit, I would then expect Money to back up to
"Cal Backup_2007-07-15_120942.mbf" where that date/time code
reflects the current time.

I then expect Money to delete what *was* the 4th-oldest of the
relevant backup files. Older files are not deleted. If you have
more than 4 such files before, you will have to delete the ones you
don't want manually. Money will add one file and delete at most one
file.

Having multiple backups is good. People sometimes recognize a
problem and exit with an automatic backup. If there is only one
backup, they overwrite their good backup. Having even more is good.
Sometimes people don't recognize right away that there is something
they will want to undo. I recommend increasing the number rather
than decreasing the number.

I am backing up to my hard drive, and it still keeps all backups. Money 2007
is the first version in which I've encountered this problem. I have used
Money since 1999, and I have never had this problem.

but Money 2007 does not automatically trim to USB as it should]

Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest
backup (uniquely named by Money) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a
copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that
came with your CDR drive.

I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive rather than floppies.
They are bigger, so you don't have to swap media to back up. Plus
they are much more reliable (but not failure-proof).

* The reason I have Money ask me, is that I don't want to back up
each time I exit. If I went into Money 5 times in a day, I would
not want to back up 5 times, nor would I want to delete 5 other
backup files. You will be given the choice to BackUpNow or to
Postpone.

I have Money set to keep only the 2 most recent backup files. However, all
backup files are retained. I've even changed the setting to keep a different
number of backup files to no avail. Has anyone else encountered this? Any
suggestions? I'm running Money 2007 Deluxe on Windows Vista Home Premium.
