In this type of situation, the basis is distributed in proportion to
the value of the pieces. The value used for each piece can be the
open, close, or (average of high and low) on the first day the
pieces trade as the split up pieces.

Some companies, publish one set of these ratios. Using their ratios
would avoid having to do your own calculations. I forget which
method I used in the TYCO case. Usually each of the methods gives
similar results.

Since I'm new to this stuff and I'm trying to put my records into Mondy,
could you explain how you came up with the 45.0190% and 54.9810%. I'm trying
to do the same type of entry for the spin-off of Agree Class A and Class B
from Lucent.

I would spin off Tyco Electronics(TEL) [29.23%] on 1 July .

Then on 2 July I would spin from TYC remaining 70.9700% of the
original again with 45.0190% going to COV and 54.9810% of the TYC
remaining with TYC.

It's a bug in Money 2007. Compensate by adding one or two Deposit
transactions to the Cash Transactions register to work around it.

As I remember, you have to do two successive spinoffs - and they can't be on
the same day. The cash issue is a known bug in Money 2007 -- you can see an
"empty" transaction that's causing the problem. Only resolution is to enter
an offsetting transaction.

Default Multiple Spin-off

Hi, I have a question for how to create a transaction for a multiple
spin-off. First, my set up, I'm using Microsoft Money 2007 deluxe and running
Windows XP home edition.

Tyco recently spun off two companies, Tyco Electronics [29.23%] and Covidien
[31.75%], when I try to use the spin-off utility in Money it doesn't give me
the option for multiple spin-offs.

The first thing I tried was to perform one spin-off to a bogus name that
combined the two companies [60.98%]. I was then going to spin the two
companies off from the bogus company. However, that seamed to consume all the
cash I had in the account.

My questions

1) Is there a way, in Microsoft Money to spin-off one company into three?
2) Why did the spin-off consume so much cash?

Thank you.
