When you converted your Money 97 file, Money 2001 saved a *.mn5 file as your Money 97 backup. Let's hope one of the files is useful. By selecting to show the file details for the search result, you can get a column of the file dates. Click the date heading to sort by date. For the future, in Tools-> Options-> Backup I suggest checking x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit x Prompt me before backing up each time* x Make my file small ... Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that came with your CDR drive. * This has two advantages. You can change the file name occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money030828. Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The ..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that you can choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind about exiting by simply clicking the X in the upper right of the pop-up box. |

| Do a search on your disk for files with extensions .MBF or .MNY. (Some very old versions also used .BAK for backup files.) M01 should know how to deal with either of these formats. You will need to examine things like name, location and file date to figure out which one you want to upgrade to M01. | You need to find the file that ends in .mny. Typically MyMoney.mny. The usual place given the vintage of your Money is c:\Program Files\Microsoft Money. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money Hints/Tips http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny UK Wishes/Suggestions mnyukwsh[at]microsoft.com "Carol" <njcarolx[at]juno.com> wrote in message news:002801c37ba5$328eb760$a401280a[at]phx.gbl... - quote - > I recently installed Money 2001. | I recently installed Money 2001. I had been running a previous version for years, 97 or earlier. Now it seems I've lost my data. I didnt ever consider that anything would happen to the backsup files. I backed up to my hard drive always but now do not know what the file was called. Do I have to start from stratch and set up everything all over again? |
