| Grrrrr. I did a clean reboot with NO non-Microsoft startup items and NO non-Microsoft services running. No joy. Uninstalled McAfee SecurityCenter & VirusScan AND Iolo System Mechanic completely. Turned off Windows Defender. Went through the KB article and repeated all the steps again. Uninstalled Money 2007. Cold-started, still with the clean boot. Reinstalled Money 2007 and STILL got the same result, with download progress reaching 99% and then the "unable to install the update" message. I'm beginning to think I have a corrupt file on the Money CD-ROM. Any thoughts? Is this normal? problem doing that in safe mode. However using a clean boot may be successful for you. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796 If you were running Norton, I would point out that people have success after uninstall; disabling Norton is insufficient. I have not heard that about McAfee. |

I was able to find - all to no avail. Method 1 in the article you reference ends where my problem starts, at step 3.c :-). My version of Money 2007 is 16.0.120.621 which means neither SP1 nor SP2 have successfully installed, so Method 2 in the article doesn't apply. BTW - I also tried it after booting up in safe mode but it gave me an error in the autoupdate.dll module. Is this normal? |

| After installing MM Deluxe 2007 on VISTA, I CANNOT get the automatic software update it runs when you open it for the first time to install. It seems to be working fine, gets as far as 99% on the download progress, pauses, and then pops up the "Money was unable to install the update" message. I know the internet connection is fine because if I bypass the software update, the MM 2007 Internet Updates\Update Now .. works fine with no problem (as does my IE7 if I open it at the same time the install is running). Here's all the things I've tried to get it to work: - Run As Administrator (even though I only have one account on my machine and I was signed in as Administrator to begin with). - Reset IE7 to the defaults. - Added //money: to trusted sites and set he security level to medium-low. - Added Money 2007 to the Windows Firewall exceptions. - Completely closed down and removed every running McAfee SecurityCenter process. I'm about ready to tear my hair out. I've been trying for days to get it to work. It just doesn't give you much information to go on when it fails. Any ideas of where I can find more info on why it's failing, or another method for downloading and installing the Money Service Packs? Thanks. |
