Default Re: MS Money - Vista and Passwords

The only difference with the UK version is the spelling.
It will say "Favourites" and under Help, Check will be spelled "Cheque"

So, the main point is to look at the menu bar (very top left under the
Microsoft Money title bar), and not use the ? to access Help topics.

Looking at
http://www.microsoft.com/money/docs/premium.htm, do you see the word
"File" at the upper left?

Do you see the words "Edit Favorites Tools Help" just to the right
of Help?

In your program, do you see "File ....... Help"? If so, click Help.

John, no I am in the UK but happen to be playing with the US version. I will
try and load a UK copy in the next few days, but I will be away on business
for a few days so it won't be immediate!

John, don't worry a) I may not be expressing myself clearly and b) I am
using M2007 right now.

When you are on the Home Page across the very top should be "File", "Edit",
"Favorites", "Tools", "Help".

Clicking on Help should give a drop down list with:-

Microsoft Money Help
Money User Guide
Money Glossary
Instructional Videos
Ordering Checks
Privacy Statement
About Microsoft Money

It is the last one I want you to click on to get the version number.

Your version may be different in detail but I am sure it has the same
general layout.

John, when you load Money and click on Help and then About Money, the
version number is the second line on the screen. In a copy of M2007 I happen
to have loaded line 2 reads "Version 16.0.150.1303 Copyright.....".

Previous versions are M2003 = 11; M2004 = 12; M2005 = 14 (there wasn't a
v13!); M2006 = 15 and M2007 = 16.

Without knowing this info it is almost impossible to give you concise help!

Bob
I have loaded Money, gone to help and it is a Money de Luxe. I have not
found a serial number but on the Amazon invoice it says: B 0002WV7TO
805529803602
Hope this will able you to give me an answer.

Default Re: MS Money - Vista and Passwords

Bob
I also have this exact same problem
My old PC failed
I was running Microsoft Money 2002 on my old PC with Windows XP, home edition

so I bought a new PC with Windows Vista, premium edition
I took my old hard drive out of my PC and connected it via a fire wire
external setup to my new PC
Intalled my PURCHASED version of Money 2002 and have the same issue when I
try and either open the existing money file on the external drive or try and
restore from my original files I get a message requesting a password. I had
NEVER set a password on my old system.
Out of frustration, I went to another PC that I have that I use for work but
is running XP, Installed Microsoft Money and tried to restore from the same
hard drive and got the same problem.
I set the file attribute so it was Not read only.
I still have the same problem! I sure don't want to have to buy a mother
board and a power supply for the old PC so I can get the important data off
that I need. I was usuing PURCHASED versions of these program and find that
this is a very unacceptable issue.
The version S/N of Microsoft Money I am using is: 55243-015-6164155-03809

I do not have an answer but have a similar problem.
I installed today microsoft money on my new laptop which has vista and have
spent hours trying to open it. It will not accept my passwords; not the one
which works fine for my hotmail account nor for the other ones which I set up
in desperation!
Does anyone have a solution?
I have a further problem: On my old pc I used Quicken XP but was not able to
transfer it on the new laptop since I could not get a registration key from
Quicken since they do not give any longer support in the UK.
Assuming I can get past the request for a password on Money how do I tranfer
my Quicken files from old pc to the new pc?

Oh, and assuming that since this was an OEM edition, you have no M04 usable
on your new machine, you are rapidly running out of choices besides ebaying
an M04 or buying a new M07 copy.

Money v. 12 == Money 2004, not Money 2000. Money 2000 will not open an M04
file on any platform under any circumstances. Back to theories expressed
earlier in the thread.

Here's the decoder ring:

Money = 1
Money v. 2 = 2
Money v. 3 = 3
M95 = 4
M97 = 5
M98 = 6
M99 = 7
M2K = 8
M01 = 9
M02 = 10
M03 = 11
M04 = 12
(13 was skipped. Skipping it didn't, unfortunately, make M05 any better.)
M05 = 14
M06 = 15
M07 = 16

Hi Dick - that is exactly what I have done, installed MS Money 2000 on Vista
and then copied the data files and backups from my XP PC to Vista and that is
where I get the password issue, regadless of whether it is the data or back
up files. I still have the old version running - when I do Help/About it does
not say MS Money 2000, but Microsoft Money Deluxe OEm Edition, Version 12.0.

I was now going to try and export the data from thew current version running
on XP and import into MS Money on Vista.

Incidently, I even tried MS Money 2007 using the trial/evaluation copy
installed on Vista, but that would not open either file as well.

Appreciate all your assistance on this.....

Regards

Steve

Benji,
How did you copy the Money file to your new PC?
Did you burn it to a CD and then copy it to the new hard drive?
If so the new file has a "read only" attribute that has to be removed.
Hope this helps.

Just in case it is related, I am running Money 2007 on Vista64 and on 2-3
occasions I have had the Money file refuse to recognise my password and have
to open the backup file to proceed.

Maybe not.

What we need to figure out is what you are really trying to do and then
figure out why it isn't working.

I infer from your postings that you believe your data file is Money 2000 and
you are being asked for a password when you try to open the data file from a
copy of Money 2000 installed on Vista. Do you still have the file
operational on your previous PC? If you open it and do a Help|About, what
version is reported?

The reason I asked what I asked is one VERY COMMON reason people come here
and can't open their file from Money version X back in the reinstalled Money
X on their new machine is that somewhere along the way they updated to Money
X+something and now their data file is not a Money X file anymore and the
re-installed Money X app doesn't have a clue what to do with it. They've
forgotten they did the upgrade/don't remember they did the upgrade/can't
find any newer CD than Money X or something along these lines, but it's
still what has happened.
