| If you are trying to make an M06 file--the original topic of the thread--work with M2000--what you mention in your thread--it just won't work. We say this here in the newsgroup ten times a week it seems. Money data files are not compatible with older versions of the app. Not now, not then, probably not ever. | I have done all of this and MS Money still is looking for a password. See my post 06/24/2007. Any other ideas? | I don't know what you mean by "Money did not find the file" assuming you did what I suggested (none of which had anything to do with opening and closing the program or rebooting) and just double-clicked on the file and let the OS tell Money about it rather than any other scenario besides opening Money. skipping the new user setup genie stuff and doing a File|Open and browsing to find the file. Now, as to WinLive IDs, etc., I know of no reason, from the data supplied to date in the thread, that IDs would be different, etc. There are some issues with Vista and making sure SSL2 is enabled in IE that **might** be related. Was the original file protected on the M06 file by a WinLive ID? Why do you say that was a different WinLive ID from the one now protecting the file? (I.e., what are you seeing that makes you say that? What have you tried?) An M06 Deluxe file for Money US should open in M07 Deluxe with no less functionality except for the minor feature breakages than M07 generically did to M06. It sounds like you are not getting anywhere near that far. Please try: 1) opening the Money06 data file by double-clicking on it from File|Explorer. What happens? 2) If that doesn't work, try starting Money and when it gets to the new user setup screen, try going to File|New and opening the sample file installed with the program out in ...\Program Files\Microsoft Money. What happens? Do you still have a running M06 installation/data file? I did notice that when opening Money, it asked for my Windows Live ID sign in. I used Money to open the old 2006 file, and I found that the log in is not the same as the original 2007 lo gin (requesting Windows Live ID). I assume that the 2006 .mny file is not being opened with the full functionality that 2007 offers? Do I remove and then reload 2007? |

| The order probably doesn't matter. Since it's a new machine and a new Money install, it will have no knowledge of "most recently used" files. Note that some of your settings will also not transfer in the file. One particular one I'm aware of is check printing alignment. Once the file is on the new machine--somewhere in My Documents is highly recommended--and Money is installed, double click on the Money file and Money should take over from there. | I currently have MS Money 2006 on an old computer. I have purchased a new PC with Vista. I have also purchased new MS Money 2007 on CD. What is the best way for me to proceed in loading MS Money 2007 onto the PC with Vista, and to get my old Money files. Do I load Money 2207 software and then transfer .mny file, or should I trnasfer .mny file and then load Money 2007? |
