So I don't know why the error message. You could try installing the old Money 2004 trial onto a different computer, and see if you could File-> Restore. That would be to check to see if the problem was with the installation or with the .mbf file. See http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913108/en-us under the heading WORKAROUND. I suggest doing that with a different computer to be sure you don't interfere with the current install. Don't restore to the default location, but browse to the new location. |

| I'm assuming (probably wrongly) that somewhere in the many times I've backed up this money file that I'd have been notified that it was in multiple parts? I've always backed it up to my external hard drive. MS support seems to think the file is corrupt but was unable to tell me for sure anything, really. The name of the file I was trying to restore is "Julie's Money Backup.mbf" it's 7698 KB. |

Same error message. > Any ideas? *d3.mbf and so on, if they were copied from removable media such as floppies. What is the name of the file that you started the restore attempt with? Suppose you had your stack of floppies. I would copy each file from the backup floppies to the same directory/folder. This will give you an extra backup and will separate any problems of reading the floppy media from some other potential problem. This is not the common way, and it is not usually necessary. But especially if it is my only backup, I would consider the copy to hard disk step. The files will be named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf, *d3.mbf and so on. In WE, double-click the *d1.mbf file. That should launch Money and start the restore. When Money prompts for the next diskette, click OK. If you are restoring directly from floppy diskette, you can insert the first floppy and double click the *d1.mbf file. Change diskettes when prompted. You will have a chance to change the location or filename for where the restored data will go. If this is a different computer, it is especially good to browse to a location. The old location may not even exist. |

| I recently had to replace my hard drive. I installed Money (04 Deluxe) and tried to restore my Money back up that was on an external hard drive. I got this error: "Please insert next backup disk. (The disk containing file "".)" Probably the most useless error message ever since a) i'm pretty sure this is the entire backup and b) it doesn't tell me what file it's talking about. I realized that my previous Money file might have been from Money 2001 Standard so I uninstalled Money 04, installed Money 01, and tried to restore the file again. Same error message. Any ideas? |
