| This is getting a little confusing: What I am calling the broker name has a small plus to the left that when clicked changes to a minus sign and reveals all the accounts under that broker. I chose to use the term broker name because when you click "sort account list by" in the left column there is an option to sort by "bank or broker name". My account list appears as follows when not expanded: + American Funds + American Funds #3 Since both were downloaded from the same broker MS Money addded the #3 and that is how it appeard after downloading my wife and kids plans (accounts). If I click the + next to American Funds it displays the 8 funds in mt Roth with a total at the bottom....very nicely. BUT when I click the + next to American Funds #3 to expand this group it displays about 28 funds some of which belong to my wife's Roth, some of which belong to my first childs 529 and some of which belong to my second childs 529. The three groups of accounts are mixed under this Broker Name "American Funds #3! I don't think my problem has anything to do with merging accounts. I just want ot add 2 more broker names called American Funds 2 and American Funds 4 and seperate the accounts so that they are all in a related group instead of being mixed together. Thanks again for hanging in there to try and understand what I'm saying!! I suspect that you call a broker name is what I would call an account, and what you are calling an account, I would call an investment. The things in the AccountList are accounts. Since you are downloading, you will want to follow the account distinctions that American Funds is making. But if you get duplicate accounts, you will want to merge as appropriate using AccountList-> MergeDuplicateAccounts. The merger process will allow you to merge a downloaded account with an account that is not set up for online access. Another thing that you want to do is to rename the accounts appropriately. To do that, right-click the account name, and choose SeeAccountSettings. There you can make changes. Keep an extra backup or so in case you want to undo something with File-> Restore. ************************************** Basic Money Glossary (prototype) Account A collective place to place transactions, investments, cash, and debt. An investment account would normally hold stocks, bonds, and/or mutual funds. There are also bank, credit, and asset accounts. Money Help item "account" gives a description. Category The Money help item "category" says "A way to sort your income and expenses into meaningful groups so you can see income and spending patterns in Money reports." That seems like a good description. Favorite Account An attribute of an account to give it easier access. See help item "favorite". Investment A security such as stock, bond, or mutual fund. See Help item "investment". Investment Buys and Sells are entered into an investment (type) account, but an account is not an investment. Normally when your broker assigns different account numbers, each account number would correspond to an account. Each account can contain many different types of investments. Money File The file that normally has the extension .mny. It contains the data for money as well as most of the settings. It can be moved, deleted, or copied by normal operating system means. See Help item "file". The Money file can be backed up to a Money backup file with a .mbf extension. Give careful thought to your backup policy. Watch Account An account that is not real, but is for the purpose of watching securities that you may not actually own. See help item "watch". Money Market Fund An investment held in an investment account that is a special kind of mutual fund: the share price is fixed at $1 usually, and Money does not put the sell transactions into the schedule D (capital gains) information. Called "money market" in Money. Sometimes referred to as MM or MMF. Bank Money Market A checking account from a bank that usually has some extra restrictions and higher interest. |

| Thank you for your replies but I feel I left out some important details and I will explain what what I did to hopefully help you understand what i want. First I downloaded My Roth IRA from American Funds. Money downloaded 8 accounts (funds) for my IRA and Money created the broker name "American Funds" under which my accounts are listed. Next I downloaded mt wife's Roth IRA which is linked to our kids college savings plans or 529 plans. So when I entered my wifes account #, fund # (Also with american Funds) money downloaded all her Roth IRA account (funds) which is what I wanted but it also wihout prompting me downloaaded both the kids 529 plans and all ~20 funds in these two plans. Money created another Broker name and called it "American Funds #3". So in my account list I have two broker names for the same investment company: American Funds and American Funds #3. I don't mind having the broker name listed twice, in fact I want the same broker name listed 4 times: 1 for my Roth IRA, 1 for my wifes Roth, one for each 529 plan. I'm confident I didn't make a mistake downloading the account and I'm pretty sure the problems lies in the fact that the kids accounts are linked to my wifes. After all, you not going to give a 6 yr old and a 13 yr old a pasword and access to an investment account! If it's not possible I'll somehow make due with the portfollio manager that you suggested. I haven't had time to try your suggestions yet but I will and will provide some feedback when I do. | If there are 3 different accounts at the one broker then you should be able to download them as separate accounts. I suspect that you did something incorrectly when you first setup the online services. When you originate online services and have more than one account with that service the different accounts should show up and ask you to match the to existing accounts or new accounts. I would suggest that you terminate the online service for this broker and then delete the broker and restart the whole process again. -- Neil "cwilliams" <cwilliams[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news C8C6840-CBC2-4980-B11B-F11B74E5DE5D[at]microsoft.com...- quote - > MS Money 2007: > In a single download MS Money downloaded accounts that contained funds for > one Roth IRA and 2 529 college savings plans. Investing-> InvestingTools-> Portfolio will get you there, but it is better to add Portfolio as a Shortcut to get you to the Portfolio in a single click. Examine the various views. You can also click ChangePortfolioView-> CustomizeCurrentView-> PortfolioColumns Select each of the seven TotalReturn items, and click Add. Also select TotalAnnualizedReturn. These will give a much better view of how each of your investments have been performing. You can reorder them by selecting one in the DisplayedColumns and choosing MoveUp or MoveDown. You may want to select CostBasis on the right, and click Remove. That column is very meaningful for non-deferred accounts, but you should not care about that column for a 401K. When done, you can do SaveAs. Money will ask for a name for that view. Then you will be able to select that view with SelectView in the upper-left of the portfolio. Alternatively, click Save, and the view that was in effect when you clicked CustomizeCurrentView will be modified. You can also reorder and resize columns by dragging the column headings while viewing a portfolio. - quote - > Does anyone know how to create a broker name so I can move existing accounts
It sounds as if all three accounts are already listed as being held> into it? at the correct broker. |

| MS Money 2007: In a single download MS Money downloaded accounts that contained funds for one Roth IRA and 2 529 college savings plans. All three accounts downloaded under one broker name so that I cannot see the indivual total sums of the three accounts. Each plan contains 8-10 different funds. I want to move all the Roth accounts under a single broker name such as "American Funds Roth". One of the College savings plans under another broker name such as American Funds College 529 Victoria, and the other college savings plan under a third broker name such as American College savings Funds Nicholas. Curently the accounts for all three plans (~30 accounts)are under one broker name "American Funds #3" and I can't see the totals for the indivual funds. Does anyone know how to create a broker name so I can move existing accounts into it? |
