| I should say, to be precise, "Special Category" "Buy Investment/CD". | The typical way is to create an Investment Account and use the Special Transaction Buy Investment/CD. That "category" will ask about what Investment (and let you define the Investment--as, say, a Mutual Fund with symbol "UMBIX" or whatever) and what Investment Account holds the Investment (you created the account in the previous step). It will let you specify a number of shares of that Investment and a transaction value for that number of shares and then it will calculate a share price (let it calculate the "approximate" price for the exact number of shares--this works best). The transaction ends up doing exactly what you were asking for--it behaves more or less exactly like transferring cash from one account to an investment in the other. There is LOTS more this whole area of Money can do too, but let's start small. Example: once you define the Investment(s), Money can get daily values/quotes for the Investments from the web and keep track of what your share holding is worth from time to time and report on the performance of your investments using this data. BUT!!! If you are using Money Essentials it probably doesn't work this way since Money Essentials is basically useless for much besides mirroring bank website information, near as I could tell. You didn't say exactly which edition you are using. If Deluxe or above, *please* read up on Investments and Investment Accounts in the Help and, by all means, come back here with more detailed questions. You might also want to look in the Sample data file. | Hello, WinXP, using Money 2007. Is there a way of entering an amount I transfered to my mutual fund without categorizing it as expense but as an investment amount? My goal is to keep track of the amount I've got to invest along the year. Thanks -Christian |
