Default Re: How to enter refund

Yes. Lot's of us can tell you many ways to accomplish all of these things.

Let's take them one at a time.

For refunds like taking a rake you decide you don't want after all back to
WalMart, many of us treat this by putting in a "credit" transaction against
the same expense category used to make the purchase in the first place.
Depending on the settings, Money will complain that you are saving an Income
entry in an Expense transaction. You can tell it you know and really do want
to do this. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=179.

Employer Reimbursements may be a little more complicated depending on your
tax treatment and there are many ways to go, including the above. See
http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=36.

Income Tax refunds are yet another variant that can be treated many ways.
And one thing is for sure: the refund is Income just like the withholding in
the first place was an Expense. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=102.

By the way, how did you search? This comes up often. I'd recommend doing an
advanced search of newsgroup "microsoft.public.money" at
http://groups.google.com. If you searched in Microsoft's newsgroup
interface, it's lame because it doesn't have nearly the depth of history to
search as http://groups.google.com does. It also doesn't seem to search what
it does have as well when I try it. Can't say why.

In particular, the Tax Refund question comes up quite nicely when I search:
http://groups.google.com/groups/sear...money&safe=off.

Default How to enter refund

Did a search in this arena, did not find answer.

WinXP, still using Money2005.

How do I enter a refund (like a tax refund) or employer reimbursement
without categorizing it as income? As I paid tax on it in the first place,
it hardly seems fair that Money would count it as income a second time. And
it isn't an expense of any kind, it's a deposit.

Can anyone tell me how to accomplish it?

Thanks
Heather
