| I selected the ShowStandardizedPayeeNamesForWhichANameIsNotFound setting and downloaded the 'Pets "R" Us' transaction again. It worked!!! Money stripped off the Quotes and matched it with the transaction I manually keyed in. I'm going to use this stting from now on. Thanks, George On Jun 7, 5:08 pm, Cal Learner-- MVP <via_newsgr...[at]please.tnx> wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, George wrote: > > I mean quotes (") and not apostrophes. You did not mention theShowStandardizedPayeeNamesForWhichANameIsNotFound setting. Had you tried that, and what were the results? - quote - > The two errors I had were 6 months or more apart and so my memory of
Interesting. I was unaware of that. The OFX 2 specification says> the first error was off. I now remember more clearly. The first > error was caused by the payee 'Pets "R" Us'. There are normally two *rs.txt files for each FI. Copy/rename the later, and usually larger to a *.ofx filename. Edit that *.ofx file with a simple text editor (rather than a word processor). Make your changes. File-> Import that *.ofx file. There would be ways to make a script to do the replacements for you. | I mean quotes (") and not apostrophes. Sorry. The two errors I had were 6 months or more apart and so my memory of the first error was off. I now remember more clearly. The first error was caused by the payee 'Pets "R" Us'. As a test I just tried keying it in manually and Money won't allow the quotes ("). Then I went to my Financial Institution's website again and examined the transactions again for the latest date that had problems. Lo and behold 'Pets "R" Us' was there. Due to my faulty memory I thought it was another transaction on that same day that had an apostrophe. BTW, I tried repairing the Money data file and deleted the temporary both times without any success. The only solution was NOT to download and import the transaction with the quote (") in it. I wish there was some way to intercept the downloaded transactions and edit out the quote symbol. I expect you mean ampersands ('&').> transactions. Both times it was caused by an apostrophe in the > Payee's name. Evidentially, Money doesn't like apostrophes in OFX > files. - quote - > I worked around this problem by deleting the downloaded transactions.
The FI should encode an ampersand as these five characters: "&".> Then I went to the Financial Institution's website and manually > downloaded the new transactions with dates prior to the bad > transaction (the one with the apostrophe) and the new transactions > with dates after the bad one. Almost ... but .....> Say does anyone know how to download a OFX and save it without Money > trying to open it? - quote - > I'd like to try to edit out any apostrophes next
.... this is likely to solve the problem for you:> time this occurs. In Internet Explorer delete your browser temporary files with Tools-> InternetOptions-> DeleteFiles or Tools-> InternetOptions-> Delete-> DeleteFiles. Then in Money do File-> RepairMoneyFile-> QuickFileRepair again. Then go to Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServiceSetting and select ShowStandardizedPayeeNamesForWhichANameIsNotFound. Download again. |

| I use Money 2006 Deluxe. Twice I have had problems viewing downloaded transactions. Both times it was caused by an apostrophe in the Payee's name. Evidentially, Money doesn't like apostrophes in OFX files. I worked around this problem by deleting the downloaded transactions. Then I went to the Financial Institution's website and manually downloaded the new transactions with dates prior to the bad transaction (the one with the apostrophe) and the new transactions with dates after the bad one. So in effect I downloaded all new transaction except for those on the same day as the bad one. Then I manually entered the transactions with the same date as the bad one. BTW, you can't enter a Payee name that has an apostrophe. That's who I discovered this. Who's at fault? I imagine Microsoft has told the Financial Institutions not to include apostrophes in OFX files. So the F.I.s are at fault. However, Money should have a way to handle this error. So MS gets is also at fault. Say does anyone know how to download a OFX and save it without Money trying to open it? I'd like to try to edit out any apostrophes next time this occurs. George |
