If you were to disable on-line services, you'd then be able to rename the errant Comcast. You could then re-enable online services. You need to cancel all pending epays and apays before doing so, though. --ron |

| Thanks to both of you for responding. Ron - suggestion 1 didn't work because it's an online payee and therefore you can't rename it. Suggestion 2 also didn't work for similar reasons: find and replace does indeed find all the correct transactions for payee "Comcast", but I can't actually edit the payee on any of them. (they all get greyed-out when cliking the replace button) So it's almost as though there are 2 Comcast payees in force, both of which are online-payees, yet only 1 of them shows up in the alphabetical list of Payees. (it's the one that only lists that one transaction from 2005) I logged into MSN Bill Pay, but it only shows one Comcast payee as well. I suppose I could just delete the Payee from money, and then create a new one with the same info, but I don't where that would get me. What really needs to happen is to somehow make those other 29 transactions "point" to the Comcast payee that actually shows up in the Payee list. (or foreign-key to that payee, to speak in DB terms) I do make backups every 2 weeks of my Money file, but I opened a few recent ones and the problem was still there. I'm really not interested in resotring a 2 year old file just to fix this issue. Any other ideas?? Unfortunately this problem is moving me one step closer to going to the dark side and trying Quicken since I have to upgrade in a few months anyway to retain online services. |

Does anyone > have any troubleshooting ideas or things I could try? Thanks a ton! -- a space or something. Suggestion 1: Go to the current month's Comcast -- the one that has only one entry -- and try to rename it to Comcast. If it works, it'll ask you if you want to merge it with the other Comcast. Select Yes and all should be well. Suggestion 2: (if 1 doesn't work) Tools/Find and Replace Regular Accounts Find: Comcast If all the transactions, from both payees comes up, then you should be able to Replace Payee with Comcast There may be some issues if the payees are both payed online, and the accounts have different account numbers. --ron |

| So I've been running Money 2004 for almost 3 years now and am trying to figure out this latest puzzle: A few days ago I was perusing my list of Payees and noticed that "Comcast" only had 1 transaction listed in it. (from 2005) I was stunned, since I pay those morons a foolish amount of money for cable TV every month. There should be tons of transactions listed. I made sure there weren't 2 payees called Comcast but there weren't. I then took a look at my checking account (from which I pay all my bills) and tried to find my last month's payment to Comcast. Sure enough, there it was just like it should be. So I right-clicked on it, and chose "Go to Payee: Comcast". So then it jumped me into the Comast payee, but now it displays ALL 30-some transactions from the past few years just like I would expect it to. So now I'm really stumped. By jumping to Comcast directly from a transaction, everything looks fine. But if I go to the Payees list and choose Comcast (or run a report on the Comcast payee) it only lists that ONE lone transaction from 2005. "Comcast" is spelled correctly in both instances. My initial assumption was file corruption of some sort, so I ran both the quick and standard file repair utilites, but neither fixed this issue. On the one hand, it's not a critical problem since I can still pay my Comcast bill just fine every month, but this is the kind of strange, irritating behavior I see occasionally out of Money and it makes me crazy. Does anyone have any troubleshooting ideas or things I could try? Thanks a ton! |
