From the short time I played with it (before rejecting it) I think I recall that, if you schedule transfers out of budget for savings, it will report the net saved for that purpose. In the advanced budget, transfers to out-of-budget accounts are aggregated into a single lump sum as (duh) 'Transfers out of Budget' expense category. Transfers from non-budget accounts into budget accounts are lumped together into a single income category.> budget? How do I use it with the S&S budget? The help page says it doesn't > apply to S&S... *confused* Perhaps I'm attaching more sophistication to the savings functionality of the S&S budget than exists. But I remember thinking it was better for tracking net savings than the Advanced Budget. I rejected the S&S Budget because it totally ruins (in my opinion) the lifetime planner and the cash flow forecast. The latter is one of the most valuable tools in Money (again, my opinion.) If you use neither, maybe the S&S budget will work for you. I'm hoping it evolves over the next couple of years to embrace some of the power of the advanced budget and the simplicity of the S&S concept. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| In the help page it says that I must use Advanced Budget in order to use savings goal. However, it doesn't say how to swtich to advanced budget. I am using S&S budget now and in the budget setting I only see an option to switch to Essential budget. How can I change to Advanced budget? Per Chris' response though, you mentioned that savings goal is easier in S&S budget? How do I use it with the S&S budget? The help page says it doesn't apply to S&S... *confused* Thanks for the help though! Tracking savings goals is easier in the Savings and Spending budget. That's one of its benefits. But other aspects of the S&S budget make it hard to adopt. |

I don't use a budget, so I don't know how this is going to work for you. |

| In my budget let say I have set aside $300 per month for the "Fun" category. Now if I want to purchase something that costs $900 I'll not spend anything for Fun for two months and then on the third month I will use the saved $900. Naturally, in my budget report it will show that I've spent nothing for two months and then greatly exceeded my budget in month 3. Is there a way to make Money show that I'm actually on track to achieve a saving goal? |
