| Thank you again. I shall do what you suggest and just move the data file back and forth, for the few times I'm away from my desktop, on a USB thumb drive or writable CD/DVD drive. | M07 won't make it any easier to share data between desktop and laptop installations of Money. Indeed, the Sync with the Web sync feature is not in M07. (The Sync with the Web feature puts a subset of your data on the web where you can access it from any computer that can get to the web after logging in with your Windows Live ID/Passport. Say you are traveling with your laptop: you can enter transactions on the web interface and then they will sync back with your locally stored data file, say on your desktop, when you next login with Money.) There is no other improvement in handling what you are trying to do in M07. What works well for some people is to store their Money file on a USB thumb drive. But it will be slower if you always use it from there. Basically the only decent solution is to move your data file back and forth. | Thank you so much for replying to my question. Not being computer literate, it might be better if I just spend the money and buy a new msft Money program and install it on both my desktop and laptop. That way I will have the disk handy should I need it again. If I do this, will it solve the problem of working back and forth from desktop to laptop? I only use my laptop when I'm out of town. Again, thanks for your prompt reply and help. -- none "Dick Watson" wrote: - quote - > You have two choices: > 1) Get M06 on your laptop and then move your data file back and forth from > desktop to laptop. | You have two choices: 1) Get M06 on your laptop and then move your data file back and forth from desktop to laptop. Money is licensed to allow you to use it at different times from both your laptop and desktop. You would have to download again. To do this, see http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=159 and the MSKB item it references. Many people find working from two machines a hassle due to the need to move the file back and forth and/or the need to assure that you NEVER access the file simultaneously from both machines. (Doing the latter can corrupt the file--Money doesn't protect against this despit applications like Word having done so for a decade or more.) 2) Read up in Help on "Sync With the Web" and set this up from the desktop. This does not happen automatically but must be setp. (I'd cite the steps, but don't have M06 handy to test them. I think it's somewhere like Tools | Settings | Access your Money data on the Web.) And don't fall in love with the feature. M07 dropped it. | Yes, you are correct. I don't have Money downloaded on my laptop because I didn't receive a copy of the disk from which I downloaded the Money program to my desktop. my stock portfolio updates on my laptop, just not my bank checking account. | Now I'm confused. Is this all correct: You have a downloaded version of Money 2006 on your desktop computer. You have a Money data file on your desktop computer and it has account data and so forth and all is well. You don't have any Money version loaded on your laptop computer. What, again, were you hoping to be able to see/do from the laptop computer? Accessing some of your Money data via the Web?
