| I have not measured the growth of the file over the years, but I wish I had. I started with Money 3.0 in 1994. On a backup dated 6/1/2003 the file was 24.4 Mb it's now 44.2 Mb. I do a LOT of transactions and figured the quotes were bloating the file. It seems like recording the file size over time might be an interesting thing to look at. I wish I had been monitoring this. Let's do a small bit of math. let's say each date / time is represented by an integer, and each price by a double. That means that each 'tick' consumes 12 bytes. You have 17 funds/stocks, that means 204 bytes of data is added to your file each time you do an update. Now let's be ridiculously conservative and blow up our estimate 5-fold. Say the daily growth is 1024 bytes! That's 1 kilobyte. There's 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte. That suggests that you need to do 1024 updates to grow your file by a megabyte. That's nearly 3 year's worth of updates. Let's be conservative again and say that it's really only 1 year's worth of updates. So by using very safe estimates, we'd expect your file to grow no more than 1 meg per year due to the saved prices - and most likely less (possibly orders of magnitude less). Is that really worth worrying about? Or, have you noticed surprising bloat due to quotes? -e |

Yes, the Mutual Fund info I was referring to was the prices. Until April> What info does Money get re: mutual funds other than prices? Curious... 28, 2007 Money '03 would download "Quotes and Exchange Rates". On the other hand it still has a more recent date for "Money Updates". Different question: Over the years I noticed Money did the Quotes and Exchange Rates download every day I signed into Money. Problem is, I have 15 Funds and 2 stocks. Before when Money downloaded every day, this made the file grow larger and larger. Sometimes I have deleted out qutes except for the last one of a calendar month. This helps to reduce the file yet still allow a somewhat accurate Monthly Report. If there were a way to force Money to store only the LAST Mutual Fund price each month it would reduce the file size. Right now my file is 44 Mb. It would be nice if there were a quick way to automatically strip all the quotes except the last one of the month. I do not believe in archiving because in the past it never worked correctly for me. Mark |

One thing you should be sure to do is make a backup of your .mny file> mutual fund information anymore. > I do not use automatic dowloads of bank transaction data and don't want to > do it in Money 2007. > Anything I need to do before installing 2007 or after the install to make it > as smooth as possible? before you run 2007 for the first time, because once the file has been converted, there ain't no going back. Off topic, you mentioned that there's no more Mutual Fund info coming in. What info does Money get re: mutual funds other than prices? Curious... Thx and good luck w. the upgrade. |

| I purchased Money 2007 only because Money 2003 does not update stock and mutual fund information anymore. I do not use automatic dowloads of bank transaction data and don't want to do it in Money 2007. Anything I need to do before installing 2007 or after the install to make it as smooth as possible?
