Banking-> AccountTools-> Categories&Payees-> Payees-> PreferredPayeeNames which shows how downloaded names are translated into Payees. Record the Payee Name Variation(s) shown for the wrong payee. Delete the entries that correspond to the wrong payee. Then click on GoToPayeeRulesManager. Excluded Payee Names identifies words and phrases that should be ignored from the payee field (e.g., check, deposit as well as POS Sale and DBT Purchase). Add each word or phrase that was listed as a Payee Name Variation that you recorded. While you are at it, it is usually a good idea to select Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServices-> ReplacePayeeNames.... You will want to set Tools-> Settings-> OnlineServices-> AddADescriptionToTheMemoField That will not cause that memo field to appear as the payee, but it will cause it to appear as a memo. You will have to select the payee, but the memo should help. |

| I'm using Microsoft Money 2006 on Windows XP Home SP2. When I first started using this program I could update my Credit Union account directly from Money. For all the transactions involving my VISA Check card the PAYEE field was filled in with abbreviated information about the business I had visited. Example would be "Chevron/Joes" or "SAFEWAY/#1233" or "YUM YUM TERIAKY #4". In January my Credit Union implemented the secret question login which effectively disable the ability to get direct updates. Now I log into my Credit Union online banking service and export the OFX file into Microsoft Money. That is a minor inconvenience but no big deal. My problem is now all transactions involving my VISA Check card only say "POS Sale" or "DBT Purchase" in the PAYEE field. I downloaded an OFX file and looked at it in Microsoft Word. It appears the information which used to fall into the PAYEE field is actually in the MEMO field in the OFX. Is there anyway to tell Microsoft Money to see this data as the PAYEE again? It would save me countless time fat fingering the information into the PAYEE field. Another minor but quite irritating problem is every transaction that imports into Microsoft Money from my Credit Union with the PAYEE of POS Sale also wants to be a "split" transaction with amounts pre filled in to Categories and a "SEE WARNINGS" alert telling me the split transaction doesn't correctly match the total. Is there any way to get Money to forget these previous transactions and quit trying to pre-fill in my Category and Amounts? Thanks, Michael |
