Default Re: "gain since opening date"

thanks for the tips. Customizing the current view was good. I removed the
'gain' and used 'appreciation' which seems more appropriate for my wants &
needs.

OK. I had missed noticing that having the gain higher than the
current value was illogical given that scenario. You might try
File-> RepairMoneyFile-> QuickFileRepair. Otherwise it would appear to
be a bug.

Use the Portfolio view, as discussed in the other posts.

If you add together 385.34 plus all of the dividends and subtract
what you paid for the original holding, what do you get?

I suspect you would find the Portfolio views more useful. If you
click Shortcuts at the top, you can add a Portfolio icon to make
getting there easier.

ChangePortfolioView-> CustomizeCurrentView-> PortfolioColumns will let
you choose from dozens of useful columns. I can only think of one
that is not even potentially useful. Since "don't think of
elephants" doesn't work, "don't use the '%Gain' column" may not
either. But I suggest you don't use the '%Gain' column. Gain is
good, as is PriceAppreciation, which ignores dividends.

Select each of the seven TotalReturn items, and click Add. Also
select TotalAnnualizedReturn. These will give a much better view
of how each of your investments have been performing. You can
reorder them by selecting one in the DisplayedColumns and choosing
MoveUp or MoveDown.

Dividend yield, Beta, Fwd PE, and many more are very useful. Memo
shows the Comment field from the investment details.

You can SaveAs when you customize a view to have a view named the
way you want, and those settings will not be changed due to
resetting or changing the original view.

Default "gain since opening date"

Hi. M06: Investing, Investing Accounts, "Gain Since Opening Date"

Could someone explain to me what this means? For one investment the 'current
value' is 385.34 and the 'value on 4/5/07' is 381.14 and 'gain since opening
date' is 594.15. The $594.15 seems to not mean anything relevant to me
because it's either wrong or I don't know what it mean. Where is this number
coming from?

This is an investment that I reinvest the quarterly dividend but other than
that, there have been no transactions in the account.
