I find that the problem where Fidelity was sending an OFX 2 header
with an OFX 1 body to Money 2004 now appears to be fixed.

Thanks Cal,

I do have 2 instances of my info.
Originally I installed M2004 into a M2004 Folder. ( Because I THEN had
M2001 still running. You helped me then too. I have since upgraded
again.)

When I got M2006, I uninstalled M2001, rebooted, installed M2006 into
M2006 folder then copied my Money file into that folder. When I opened
M2006, I selected that copy - it converted that file - leaving me a
M2006 file and my M2004 install fine.

However, when I recently imported M2006 logfile ( using that reghack)
using M2004, M2006 apparently noticed or some registry bit got set. It
was after I imported M2006 logfile into M2004 that I got the "M2004 file
will be converted " prompt when I later used M2006. I aborted, manually
opened my existing M2006 file and since then both have been fine.

If you open an older Money file in Money 2006, Money 2006 will
convert after making a backup. The backup for a Money 2004 file is
*.m12

If you want to have both Money 2004 and 2006 files used alternately,
give them different names. You could copy the *.m12 file to
Bobb04.mny. Open that only with Money 2004.

They appear to have put the wrong header on the file for Money 2004.

Yes, and I think the problem may be only with Money 2004. I doubt
the local office will be able to do anything about it. Since Money
2004 will expire soon anyway, they may not be inclined to un-break
it.

Update :
(BTW, I have M2004 anmd M2006 on same Pc)
After I used log file to update M2004, when I then opened M2006, I got
the " Money will convert your M2004 file to M2006 format". I exited and
went to M2006 folder and double-clicked on it's M2006 data file and got
past it , but it must have set some bit in there to tell M2006 app to
convert.

Default Re: M2004 / Fidelity dropped support

Cal,

Worked OK ... I went to MSFT site ,
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911941/
downloaded the reg file from them ( as if no CD )
loaded the reg hack, ran M2004 - got the log file,
imported and works fine. BUT ... might I ask ...
what is different at the Fidelity end ( that makes them to not want to
send me the download for M2004 ) ? Fidelity stated - supported until
April of third calendar year of the product. Looks like they ARE sending
me the data ... and since I have only owned M2004 for 2 years and the
exp date hasn't arrived according to msft ( drop-dead date = 9/2007 in
Money - about), how come it 'doesn't work' when I choose " Connect to
online services" ?

Do you know ... is it just Fidelity ? I'm gonna be at my local office
soon to meet with a rep and will bring it up with him.

As always, thanks very much
Bobb

You can just create a 4-line file named *.reg with the second line
blank:

==============begin PROVLOG7.REG ================
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Money\16.0\On line]
"FLogProviderData"=dword:00000001
==============end PROVLOG7.REG ================

Cal

Another reason to not download Money, even if you cut a CD with the download
for later re-installation. Can someone zip up a copy of Prologs.rag from a
Money 2007 Deluxe disk and email it to me? Send it to First initial Last
name at Cox dot net.

Thanks

In Money 2006, doing step 6 while Money 2006 is open and before
downloading each time will save 4 files such as

FidelityInvestments 000000000 RS.txt
FidelityInvestments 111111111 RS.txt
FidelityInvestments 222222222 RQ.txt
FidelityInvestments 333333333 RS.txt

That Provlogs.reg will set a registry entry.

The numbers will be different, but the last one will be biggest.
That is an OFX file. The *RQ.txt files are request files and the
*RS.txt files are response files.

It works the same way in Money 2004, except the registry entry is
sticky. It will keep generating logs until you turn it off with the
no-logs .reg file.

Default Re: M2004 / Fidelity dropped support

Cal,

For Fidelity update, I select ( in upper right corner of my portfolio
window) 'UPDATE Now' and Money 2006 uses my logon info, fetches my data
from Fidelity and doesn't give me the option of creating an OFX. Right ?

Am I misunderstanding ?
I can't get go to Fidelity website and download an ofx file directly
What do you mean by The "log file from Money 2006 ??? "

I looked at your URL - that has to do with : if I HAVE an ofx doesn't it
?
" ... To save a log file for a connection to an OFX provider in Money
2006 and later versions, follow these steps: ..." or by doing that
( pss etc) will that SAVE an OFX on my hard drive when I DO " Update
Now." ?

in C:\Program Files\Money2006
I have only .mny and .mbf files ( and a readme.txt)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/911941/ tells how to capture the log
files.

I think it is only Money 2004 that Fidelity is sending the duff OFX
files to. Tho the Money 2006 files don't seem to pass OFXAnalyze,
those files seem to work.

You could capture the log file from Money 2006, rename the later
fi*RS.txt to *.ofx, and File-> Import into Money 2004.

Can you get an OFX file from Fidelity ? I looked a few times and didn't
see that option ( and thought to ask after hanging up with Fid support.
If so, would that work on M2004 ? I get OFX / QIF files from my bank -
works great.

I WOULD like to keep M2004. I have 2006 already and prefer layout on
2004. Seems to me each year the clutter the portfolio page with more
stuff I don't want to see yet have no choice. I have a lot of mutual
finds and have to scroll down to see them all with more current versions
since they use the top inch of my screen all the time for options that I
USED to have to click to see. So I had the option . That's why I still
would like to use old versions.

Logging the OFX files, it would appear that the header of the
response OFX is an OFX 2 header, but the rest of the OFX file is OFX
1. At least it lacks end tags required by OFX 2.

Bobb,

Thanks for answering a question which I had, but did not ask. This,
and the original post, explains something which happened to me last
year.

Fidelity cust svc rep told me that Fidelity only supports last 3
releases of Money and ( since new version comes out in April, ) as of
May 1 Money 2004 is now officially NOT supported at their end - only
M2005/2006/2007. Even though the 3 yr license at MY end is still good
( I didn't buy/install until Sept of 2004 ) it doesn't matter - they
drop support each year in April.
So cannot use M2004 to get statement updates any longer.

Default M2004 / any Fidelity issues ?

For the past few months I'm receiving occasional errors when I try to
"update"/download transactions" from Fidelity. ( Update prices is fine
and my other accounts - banks/brokers/credit cards etc work fine so not
a licensing issue). I have 3 separate accounts there with same logon
info that update at once and sometimes I get error stating " Problem
updating 'IRA Account'... please contact Fidelity ... "More Info:
General Error". Money uses same logon info for all accounts there, so
can't be a password/login info problem at my end. Try it again - get
the other " There is a problem with the data recevied from this online
provider. Please contact the provider' customer service dept.." Today
I'm getting both error messages. I went into 'online SETUP' - connected
to Fidelity - it saw my accounts OK etc. Retried - same errors.

( I tried calling them - they are not open yet).

My Money 2006 app works fine so my account with same info works OK.
Wondering if Fidelity made some changes to their server end that others
see this issue on M2004 also.

Thanks,
Bobb
