Consider some of the third-party convertors that translate data to OFX. You can add that with Notepad. You'll still lose whatever Money won't export to QIF. That's stuff like loan accounts. Whatever you do will be a major task, but that's true of any significant data conversion. The issue to consider is whether the result (including data quality and program cost and functionality) justifies the effort. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL |

| I suggested the scanning and associating external files (bills) to both Microsoft and Intuit for a couple of years. Looky who did it. On a side note, I DL'd Quicken Premier 2007, but the export function wasn't up to par, even still. They happily refunded my money. My initial work with the Intuit product makes me think it's superior to MS Money, but the three years of data I have that cannot be easily exported exists as a huge barrier to change. Lucky MS, for now. Kevern "The Merg" wrote: - quote - > Yeah, I've put in the request every year. I figure maybe someday one of the

| Yeah, I've put in the request every year. I figure maybe someday one of the programmers will be like "Hey, that's not a bad idea!". Quicken had the savings goal feature down pat--I just wish Microsoft would try to imitate it. I remember in M$04, they said they had one, but it was just a place you said I wanted to save money for a goal and then you would check it off the list when it was done. Not much of a savings goal monitor. - Merg -- Today's problems don't worry me, I haven't solved yesterday's yet. | This has been on my list, and those of others, for a decade or so. Apparently they just aren't interested. Even when they re-did bills in M02 they didn't improve the recurrence model. And the better model is already 99% there in Outlook. Go figure. | Just a couple of suggestions for the Money developers... 1) Creating a true savings goal feature. This would allow a user to earmark money within an account for a particular expense and continue to add/subtract to/from it. When viewing the account, you could then see what your current balance was with the savings goal money removed from the account or with the money in the account. The savings goal account would look like a separate account (although it really isn't) so you could view it in itself. This would also allow you to add to a savings goal from different accounts. In setting up the savings goal, you would be able to specify what your target amount is and when you want to reach that goal by. Money would then help you telling you if you are on pace to reaching your goal as time goes on by monitoring your "deposits" into the savings goal. 2) Change the recurrence engine for bills to something more in depth. You should be able to select any type of recurrence for bills that you want and not just some preset items. I have bills that recur every 3 weeks--there is no way to truely do that kind of recurrence with the current engine. Just a thought. Thanks, Merg -- Today''s problems don''t worry me, I haven''t solved yesterday''s yet. |
