| Thanks, refrochris. Unfortunately, I had already done the 'kill bill' option. What you said about the endless loop makes sense, though. I guess knocking the bills out puts a hole in the loop. Interesting way for MS to 'solve' the problem. As for MS not fixing it, I wonder how many people got po'd and changed to Quicken. Upgrade every 2 years x $40 x 2 mil users x lifetime of upgrades. Shucks, that's just pocket change, let 'em suffer. "renfrochris" wrote: - quote - > Here's something to try: > I had the same problems described above. | Here's something to try: I had the same problems described above. Microsoft's canned response to this seems to be to run a File - Repair Money File - Remove all Bills Data. In my opinion all this does is increase your frustration when you are forced to re-enter all your bills. In addition, I noticed that some bills are not added back very easily such as automatic loan payments. I noticed however that my problems started happening shortly after I created both a budget and a debt reduction plan. I went ahead and removed both the budget and the debt reduction plan and my problems vanished. I think the hangups are some sort of endless loop between an account and either the budget or debt reduction functionality or both. For instance, a change made in account prompts an adjustment in the budget which prompts an adjustment in the debt reduction plan which prompts an adjustment back in the budget and so on and so on and so on. Try purging any budgets and/or debt reduction plans before nuking your bills. Chris PS. This problem has been around for a while. With all due respect to Microsoft what we are talking about here is about an afternoon's worth of work for a developer to run Money through a debugger. The fact that this error has been around for so long is unacceptable. |

| I have the same problem with Money 2007 Deluxe. (Version 16.0.120.1303) I upgraded from 2005, no problem before this upgrade. I am also encountering the freeze when it goes to the 'this entry matches a bill, do you want to mark it paid' dialog. From what I can tell, any time the program opens a dialog for user input, the crash occurs. Lonewolf mentioned the CTRL+ALT+DEL to open task manager and close the program. I have had times when this was unavailable, the whole computer was frozen and I had to do a hard reboot to close everything. My keyboard is a wired one, not wireless, so keyboard function was not the problem. There is no error message associated with this freeze. It does not matter if you have other programs running or not, I have tried a clean boot and only Money running. I thought it was my old computer because it was weirding out. I now have a new computer as of this April, minimal software installed. No virus software or anything yet. Still getting the program freeze. I do not know if the problem existed before the automatic updates. First time Money opened after install, it did the updates. The dialog does not give you the option of seeing what the updates are, nor selecting whether or not you want to update. I see there are SP1 and SP2 updates listed in the support section FAQs, but I can not find a link to do these. Money's Help/About does not show the SP1 or SP2 the way Windows Help/About displays it. Maybe you can tell from the version number listed in the opening paragraph if these SP's have been installed. Before I got the new computer, I tried removing the 2007 and going back to 2005. The 2007 file format is not compatable and it was already converted, so that option did not work. | I initially encountered the problem last year and thought it had something to do with my save file (which I've had and just kept upgrading since version 2003). So for the new year I created a new file and started all my accounts over. But the problem still exists, so I'm inclinded to believe it is something with the software. During account balancing and when I download bank statements and have to change which transaction it auto matches to, the User Interface locks up at random times. There seems to be no specific action that causes it to freeze. It only happens during those screens, but not every time. More ofthen than not it DOES freeze though. Once it freezes (with the hourglass constant) I can't do anything but Ctrl-Alt-Del and force the program to end. When I restart Money and go back to where it froze before, the action I took is complete. It seems to be freezing immidiately after completing the task. Make sense? Anyone have this problem too or have any ideas? Thanks |
