Good news. I got it to work. I'm not sure why, but after about 5
tries, it started working.

The only thing dif't that I did was run the "salv.exe" level 2 then
level 1. Why it would work whereas the menu option wouldn't, I have
no idea.

Anyone have any ideas in case this happens again, to me or someone
else?

Turns out to be the same thing as running it from the menu. Still no
luck.

(standard) repair on the .mny file. It reported:

"Fixed records in online table."

I ran Level 1 and it didn't fix anything else.

Same problem though, still hangs when I first start up the program.

P.S. Bad news. Restored my backup from Friday the 13th (ha ha, very
funny) and same problem. Pegs the CPU out at 100% and hangs...

Even tried running "msmoney.exe -s"

Investigating "salv.exe"...

Did a backup just fine 2 days ago (thank goodness).

Tried to open it tonight and get:

"Opening Money file. Looking for upcoming bills..."

and it just sits there. I let it go for at least 5 minutes then
killed the process. Google search is turning up nothing. Please
help.
