You can AddShares for the shares entering the basis value and date.
That does not affect the Cash Transactions register. The basis value
and date is usually the value at the date of death.

I would still want to have the cash account, thinking that I would
do future transactions, including collecting dividends.

Why not do an "add shares" transaction? You should provide the appropriate
basis information (value on either date of death or nine months later).

Default Inheriting investments

How do I register inherited stocks and participations in mutual funds? Do I
have to create a virtual cash account, even if the stocks were not converted
into cash and then rebought?
