I too removed all bills and notice improved performance. I could add
back all my bills except for the loans that had calculated values.
Does anyone know how to do this? ie: Mortgage.

I have had performance problems for years. I've repeatedly contacted support.
To no one's surprise, they were no help at all. Standard jargon: purge,
repair 1, repair 2. Just moved from Money 2004 to "Plus" and it reeeeeally
got bad. It would take 20 minutes to just get the home page (no lie), and
even after that Money kept on consuming 100% of the processor. Noticed the
new entry to "Remove all Bills data." Backed up file, and ran this. BINGO. No
more problems. Yes, it was a hassle entering bills back in, but well worth it
(as someone else here noted) to finally, after YEARS, resolve the problem.

The real question now is: Why didn't Support suggest this?

Well, I must say, so far so good! No hangs. It was a pain in the rear
having to re-enter all my depostis, bills and transfers (that report only
lists out your bills, make sure you write down everything else!) I'm in the
middle of doing multiple account balancing, so we'll see if it lasts.

Cal, Dave, Angie, et al.:

I have had agonizing problems with Money hanging and freezing when matching
and unmatching bills for years. I have tried every trick available [in
previous versions] such as level 1 and level 2 repair, even repairing
multiple times in succession, etc., archiving, to no avail.

Money 2007 added the "remove bills" repair level cited by Cal.

Nervous about the prospect of losing data or losing track of my bills, I had
been hesitant--but I made a special backup in case I didn't like the results,
tried it, help my breath, and started working in the repaired file.

INSTANT BLISS!!! Matching and unmatching that would hang money up
permanently is now instantaneous.

If you have been having persistent performance problems, do this. It will
take you far less time to re-enter your bills than you have been spending
watching the hourglass, hoping Money will recover, and fretting over the
number of times you've had to kill money, repair the file, etc.

Die, old corrupt bills data, Die!

I archive my file once a year, my file size right now is only about 6MB.

I don't believe that "size matters" here. I would suspect a different issue.

I've been using Money for 10 years and have never archived. I do lots of stock
trades and my file size is 102 MB. Both speed and performance seem acceptable.
I use online services -- but only through my banks/brokerages and/or CheckFree
(just switched from the original CheckFree to MSN Bill Pay).

I haven't had the same problem, yet. How big is your mny file?

I did utilize the "File-> Archive" functionality to archive away older
entries. I would do this once a year or every 6 months depending on how many
transactions you add. My last archive decreased my mny file size from about
20MB to 16MB. I feel performance is better afterwards, but then, it wasn't
very unbearable before the archive either.

I tried removing all bills and then re-building the list manually without any
luck. I've also started with a new file and rebuilt everything which helped
for a brief time but now it's back to the same thing again - locking up when
I have to change an incorrectly matched transaction and when trying to
balance my account. I looked at Quicken 2007 but reviews on it seem to be
just as bad as Money 2007.

First, there is more than one file repair. Start with Quick, and
then try Standard level 2.

If those have not done it, I would make a copy of your file. Open
the copy, and try this test:

File-> Repair-> RemoveAllBillsData

This Remove All Bills Data feature would be for people who have
experienced their Money file to run excessively slow.

After trying it on the copy, see if any observed performance gain
might be worth doing that with your actual file and re-entering any
bills you still need.

To get some information within the program,
File-> Repair-> RemoveAllBillsData
Read the information. Then click cancel.

Before proceeding, make an extra copy or backup of your file
in case you want to undo something.

The problem will be that if you remove all bills, you will probably
want to add at least some of your bills back. This can be done
manually with the aid of the reports that you print out before
removing the bills.

A technique that could help simplify re-entering your bills
afterward would be to go your register and selecting a
representative instance of your past bill and selecting "Make
Recurring" (Ctrl+E). This would be especially helpful if the bill
is complex, such as involving a split.

Default Money 2007 "hangs" and stops responding

I am running MS Money 2007 on Windows Vista. I am having a recurring problem
that only occurs when I am balancing my checking account. As I go through
and clear a particular item, the software will hang and stop responding. It
is really weird because it doesn't happen on any other account that I
balance. I have uninstalled and reinstalled over 5 times. I have also
utilized the "repair Money file" option, and it has all the updates. I can't
seem to figure it out....and for it to occur with only one particular account
is bizarre. Any suggestions? Thanks.
