| I would suspect the reason Money has a problem is because the file is on CD-R and thus not writeable. Once you copied it to your hard drive, the problem obviously goes away. | The files are burned on a CD. I went ahead and tried your suggestion of copying them onto the harddrive, and that seemed to work. Thank you! I just always figured the computer should be able to read them from the disk or CD. Is there some reason why the computer wouldn't be able to do that? (I don't think it is the CD--we have tried several, plus tried ZIP disks and reg. floppy disks.) Thanks again! (and in answer to the other question, yes, I can create new files, but not sure if that is relevant since my problem is solved--I hope!) - quote - > -----Original Message----- > Are the files on a floppy or on the harddrive? | Are the files on a floppy or on the harddrive? If on a floppy, copy them to the harddrive, then try to open. Also, can you create a new file? If not, what is the error? | I had a question that I can't seem to resolve on the money support page. We have Money 97 (5.0) and have never been able to open any backup files we have made. Our computer crashed once and we lost everything. The files are recognized as money files, because when we click on them, the Microsoft Money program opens, but then it says, "There has been an error reading or writing the file . . .[file name]." It then instructs us that we need another file in order to fully open the program. What is the problem? I don't want to lose everything again, and if we get a new computer in the near future, I don't know how we'll transfer the information. Even with files that aren't specifically marked as "backup" copies, this same problem occurs. Thanks for your help, should you be able to help! |
