| After posting I updated my Money account and cross-checked against the FI site (Bank of America). The problem is stranger than I thought as some are working and others aren't. Here's a selection... FI: TARGET T0981 C 03/11 #000577577 MN: Target T C Looks ok, what I'd expect FI: CHECKCARD 0309 WALDENBOOKS MN: Checkcard Waldenbooks Why wasn't "Checkcard" removed by Payee Manager? FI: CHECKCARD 0308 CHICK-FIL-A #01169 MN: Checkcard Chick Fil A Why wasn't "Checkcard" removed by Payee Manager? FI: WALGREEN COMPA 03/10 #000749748 MN: WALGREEN COMPA 02/28 #000162390 What happened here? The ammounts/dates match. "000162390" doesn't exist on any FI website transactions. FI: BKOFAMERICA ATM 03/10 #000003090 MN: BKOFAMERICA ATM 01/11 #000002511 Same thing here. Amounts/Dates match. Where did money get "01/11 #000002511" from? Is it matching to some old data? I can't find the string in Money or on the FI site. FI: CNS LOWE'S 03/10 #000705409 MN: Cns Lowe S This behaved as I'd expect. FI: CHECKCARD 0309 RUSANS KENNESAW MN: CHECKCARD 0111 RUSANS KENNESAW What happened here? Checkcard should have been removed and where did 0111 come from? FI: PUBLIX 03/10 #000001093 PURCHASE MN: Publix 3/10 removed, ##000001093 removed, and "PURCHASE" a word in the Payee Rules Manager was removed. Why this and not "CHECKCARD"? Why does this one work and others above don't? If you note the WallGreen with 2/28 and the BKOFAMERICA ATM with 01/11 I checked the register and found transations on those dates for those payees, but, they were 2006! The payees in these old ones are "cleaned up" but does Money remember the "downloaded as" field behind the scenes? Why is money correlating transactions over a year apart and only sometimes? There are plenty "Targets" in the register so why did the one above from 3/11 process ok rather than match an old one? I've already deleted all my Payees to try and rebuild and straighten this out so why is it doing this? (None kept yet though with each update Money is automatically adding the "messed up" names and I keep deleteing untill I can fix the issue.) | A couple months back the word "Checkcard" started showing up in many of my bank transactions. By default, it's one of the words in the payee manager that should be removed before checking for user defined payee names and if not found shouldn't show up at all in the payee name if using standardized payees. My understanding is the process should work like this... Download transaction Process with Payee Rules Manager, remove keywords, numbers, symbols to create "standardized name" Attempt lookup for payee using standardized name Display User Payee if found, otherwise display standardized name From the MS Money 2007 Help on "Show standardized payees"... ---------------------------- When you download transactions, Money standardizes the transaction payee names before searching for payee name matches. Standardizing removes all numbers and punctuation, which increases the odds of finding a match. For example, Grocery Store 123 is standardized to Grocery Store, and AB & C becomes AB C. If Money does not find a payee name match after standardizing the downloaded payee name, you can choose whether to see the standardized name or the original downloaded name in your account register. ---------------------------- This isn't happening at all for me. I'm getting the exact same full description for the payee as the FI has on their website. This problem originally started with my money file on my old PC with Money 2006. In the past month I've gotten a new Vista PC with Money 2007 and it's still doing it. I've even deleted all my payees and rules and right now and testing nothing more than trying to get the standardized names to appear in the register like they once did. Under Tools, Settings, Online service settings I have... Checked - "Replace downloaded payee names with user-altered names when avaliable" (No payees defined at the moment) Checked - Show standized payee names for which a name match is not found All I'd like to see a the moment is the standardized payees in the register. Currently I'm getting numbers, dates, symbols, "ATM", and the dreaded "Checkcard" in everything downloaded. The workaround I had begun on the old computer was to add the "Checkcard" version to each payee individually as a Payee Name Variation, something I shouldn't have to be doing because it's in the list of words that should be removed in the "Payee Rules Manager". Any ideas? Thanks. |
