I second Bob's reply: provided you don't do something like trying to copy
from/to a machine where Money is actually running at the time, just copying
the file to and fro should work fine for this situation. It's the way I've
handled the exact same problem in the past.

I think that warning was about having the .mny file accessed across a network
by two users simultaneously. That is a definite no no!

If the extended trip is more than two months, maybe not. While the
amount of time that the institution keeps the transactions available
varies, some are two months, and some are more. There could be some
shorter, but I don't know any.

But as Dick says, why not copy the Money file from the laptop to the
USB flash drive to the main machine upon return? Then any memos or
manually entered transactions made during the trip will be retained.

There's a message elsewhere in this community about a corruption danger when
copying Money data files from one computer to another. I didn't quite
understand it, being technically somewhat less than expert, but the gist was
that there was a strong risk of corruption and that the corruption was very
difficult to repair. Sorry I don't know recall what the message was or from
whom. (But I found it by searching the boards for "laptop money."

Not reliably. The FIs don't keep transactions around indefinitely. If all
you want to do is check balances and cleared transactions, why not just log
into the FI web sites? Money surely adds little value to that problem.

What are the dangers you fear in copying the file to the laptop, doing your
deal, then copying the file back to the desktop?

Default Using Money 2007 on 2 non-networked computers

I have Money 2007 on my home desktop. I'd like to put it on my laptop for an
extended trip I'm making, so I can check my accounts while gone. The two
computers are not connected or networked. If I download transactions into
Money from my bank, etc., using the laptop during my trip, when I return home
and do a download onto my desktop, will the previously downloaded
transactions (to the laptop) download AGAIN to my desktop Money? (It seems
to work that way on Quicken -- anything not on the computer's copy of the
program downloads again, even if previously downloaded onto another copy of
the program.)

I understand there are dangers in COPYING a Money data file from the laptop
to the desktop. But if the desktop will simply download every transaction IT
doesn't yet show, then I don't need to copy data files from the laptop.
Does it work this way?
