| MS - Could you please give us a formal response to these questions? Are the brackets supported or not? Should our bank be able to see the data in the brackets? Are there situations where our data in brackets might be printed on the check? Did you notify people that this might happen after the feature was abandonded? From HELP for M2007: If have more than one account with a payee, you can add a note in brackets { } after the payee name. For example, when entering a new payee name, type Electric Company {rental house}. This note will allow you to differentiate between multiple accounts with the same payee. To learn more, see the Pay bills online video. To watch the Money videos, on the Help menu, point to Instructional Videos, and then click a title. --ron |

| My historic experience is that a payee field can same darn near anything (up to and including some completely different name like if you put the wrong checks in the right envelopes) and commercial payees won't even notice and will happily cash your checks. | This may be true for things that are "submitted". It isn't true for items that are printed locally. At least not here for me in M07. Perhaps this whole thing is why you can have multiple Payees (in the data file but not necessarily in the Categories & Payees | Payees list--I used to call these "implicit payees" but this lingo seemed to cause more problems than it solved) with the exact same name and nothing else different. | (Money 2007 Deluxe) And, for a *direct E-pay* (not a physical electronic check) to State Farm with the exact same Payee Name but different account numbers (Auto and Home), they are listed as separate payees in my payee list. When I make the E-pay, Money does ask me which account I want to make the payment to. But after I make the choice, the transaction ends up in the correct account. Since I don't use the bracket (the Auto Home info is in the Comment area for my convenience), it does not appear anywhere. -- Peace, BobJ "Ron Rosenfeld" <ronrosenfeld[at]nospam.org> wrote in message news:cvlgv2plmrl0s622qqd19o00gb3er44j5h[at]4ax.com... - quote - > On Wed, 14 Mar 2007 12:36:41 -0700, JCT <JCT[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > This feature was removed in MSM2006. | Cal - This feature is no longer supported and does not exist. In fact this is a huge security risk if you ask me. Based on information from MSPSS- This feature was removed in MSM2006. When you upgrade from prior versions, all Payees that have the brackets remain, but the information in the brackets get submitted. Your bank see the info, AND IT GETS PRINTED ON THE CHECK. The fact that the feature was promoted as something you could use to keep private information in, and then suddenly it is printed on your check, which might I add, NORMALLY SHOWS IN THE WINDOW OF THE CHECK ENVELOPE, creates a huge possibilty for private information to been seen by the public. I voiced this concern to MS, but of course, it went nowhere. I am a huge MS advocate, but I have never been so lt down by them. I recieved NO notification of this and just happened to figure it out when my bank read to me the information in the brackets. When i called MS to find out why this was happening, they said they feature no longer exists. The new solution according to them is to change the payee name slightly. The suggestion was "Payee Name 1", "Payee Name 2". Again this information goes on the check, so we all better hoppe our Payee accepts the check. There is an alternate way to do this that they didnt mention on the call. In 2007 when you create a payee with a separate account # using the same name a popup appears asking which account to use. The dialog box is so small you cannot read the majority of the account # so good luck determining which is which. And forget about reporting on the two as separate payees. They both show as a single payee in the payees list, combining all transactions. So if oyu have a Comcast business account and a Comcast account, all trasnactions will be combined, because comcast wants you to "make check payable to: Comcast." Create new payees with the same name but with a distinction in braces following the name. So Payees might be ABC Clinic {Dick} ABC Clinic {Sally} ABC Clinic {Tommy} ABC Clinic {Pickles} ABC Clinic prints for each. |

| Hi, I'm currently a Quicken user looking to possible make the switch to Money. In Money, is there a way to assign multiple account numbers and/or addresses to the same payee for printing checks. Here are two different scenarios I'm encountering and would like to see if Money can handle them: 1. We have multiple school loans from the same payee but with different account numbers. Every time I go to print a check I've got to edit the account number. 2. We have multiple accounts (home equity, credit card) with the same payee but the mailing addresses are different for each account. Is there a way to identify the payees in these examples without having extra info print in the "Pay to the order of" field of checks? Thanks, Joe |
