Thanks for replying. In 2006 online setup I only have "Principal Financial
Group" and nothing else Principal-related. I do have the cash account and
have been transferring my deductions there, from which I buy the associated
funds. I guess I just need to figure out how to import the buys and it won't
be so bad. I just don't have the account listed when I recover accounts with
the downloaded .qif ...

thanks again,
D

First of all are you trying to download Principal Group as a 401k through
Money. I have talked to Principal. "The Principal Group" can be downloaded
through Money but "Principal Group" can not. Yes, when you go to their
website the logo does say "The Principal Group". I think it has something
to do with have it through your work and not as a choose of the investment
company you want to work with.

When you set up your 401k account, did you set up an associated cash account
also. If yes, transfer the payroll deduction into the associated cash
account. When you import you transactions from Principal Group the cash
will be distributed to the correct buys.

I hope this helps,

Cindy

Default investment importing & "recover account"

Hello. I'm using 2006 and am unable to directly connect to Principal
Financial Group to directly download my account transactions. I've been
downloading my transactions in a .qif file and am trying to use the
recommended "recover account" approach to import the investment
transactions.

When Money opens the file, however, my Principal account, which is in my
money file with transactions, is not listed. The only account listed as
available to import the transactions is one other investment account that is
a single stock - held by itself. Why would my account not be listed?

A related question: my 401k deduction comes out of every paycheck (every 2
weeks) and the amount is distributed among my investment account allocation
(7 funds). Entering the 7 buys every 2 weeks seems like it will cause my
money file to swell because of all the transactions. Is this the normal way
of entering my payroll deductions into my 401k?

Thanks!
