I could suggest that you do a search of all of your drives for *.mny, *.mbf but I fear that search will not find a forgotten file that will be newer than your 2-year old backup. I would be very surprised if a third-party program resurrects your newer file. You might consider contacting Microsoft to see if they have any ideas. Expect a fee for support, and don't expect positive results. Even so, it seems a better long shot than that program/service that you cited. I would work with that two-year old file, download what is available from the financial institutions, add in what you have available from other statements, and make a compensating transaction in each account to compensate for what you cannot reconstruct. I don't have to tell you to review your backup situation. I suspect you already have made extra copies of that 2-year old backup onto USB flash and/or CDR media in case your hard drive were to crash. It is no consolation to tell you that Money 2006 and 2007 keep 4 timestamped backups on your hard drive by default, and that you can increase that number. I set mine to 99 since I have a lot of unused space anyway. |

When I restore my backup file I do specify a different filename. My default backup file name is "My Money Backup.mbf" and the file that I am trying to restore to is "Repair.mny" Thanks! |

Repair a different version, restore a back up or re-install Money. Make sure your file is not saved as read-only (0x800a1462)" I used salv.exe downloaded from the web and also the one with Money 2004 (by first creating a new data file) and get the same mssg. Money needs to verify the information in the file. This may take a few minutes." When I press yes i get the message "the password is incorrect. please try again" When I tried restoring from the back-up file i got the error message that money cannot locate the file or its a read- only file or the disk drive is write protected. I am not aware if the import function was available in Quicken or not..just assumed it was. And please note, I back-up every week. My back-up from last week does not work while my back-up from 2 -years ago works which was on a USB drive works. Not sure why that is happening though. Any thoughts why ? Thanks, Rajat |

| How do you propose to import the data into Quicken if nothing can read the file and Quicken has no importer? | I may have a corrupt money data file and it seems my backup file has also got corrupted. I can open a new data file and one that was backed- up over 2 years ago but not the one from last weekend. Have tried the recovery steps outlined in microsoft suppport base, tried the salvage tool (quick repair seems to work but not Level 2 standard repair), upgrading to M07, a demo version of the "recovery for money" and also exporting to excel using the UltrasoftLink add-in but with no luck.. It seems the two options left to me are - 1. Can I import into quicken , hope for a miracle and if the miracle works, export it to M04 ? 2. Use a data recovery service.. Any thoughts if #1 has worked for anyone and also are there any other options available ? Hate to lose the data Thanks, Rajat |
