File-> Export your busiest accounts to QIF files. With a text editor such as Notepad, delete all transactions that pre-date the early December backup. Then import the QIF files in (all at once if more than one) as recovered accounts. By importing all at once, transfers can be recognized. In M05: Tools-> Settings-> BackupOptions I suggest checking x Automatically backup to hard disk on exit x Prompt me before backing up each time* x Make my file small ... Then periodically, perhaps once per month or more, copy your latest backup (named differently from your earlier backups) to a CDR. With XP, this can be a copy and paste operation. Otherwise use the burning software that came with your CDR drive. I strongly suggest use of a USB Flash drive also, in addition to backing up to your hard drive. They typically act like a big floppy. For a more automated way to make multiple backups, see Glyn Simpson's method at http://money.mvps.org/backup.aspx * This has two advantages. You can change the file name occasionally. I like to pick a name something like money070211. Then it is easy to change the name to have multiple backups. The ..mbf extension is automatic. The other advantage is that you can choose "Don't Back Up, or you change your mind about exiting by simply clicking the X in the upper right of the pop-up box. |

| After I posted my reply last night, I decided to reinstate a backup that I took in early December to check if I was able to download statements into that. I'm happy to report that it worked, so I have decided to revert to that. It means a bit more work getting it up to date but I'm just happy it works again. I guess this means that the problem was with the datafile and not with the program as I first thought. I suspect using the same file with MS Money on a different PC would have made no difference. Whilst I still don't know what the problem was, it does highlight the need to have multiple backups that you can revert to if necessary. Thanks for all your suggestions. | Thanks you for your reply. I was not aware if the -s option for MS Money as a means to repair the file. I tried what you suggested but unfortunately this did not solve the problem. I also downloaded a program named salvage from http://money.mvps.org, but this also failed to fix the problem. I guess it's not looking good. I might try moving the application to another PC I have that runs Windows ME, perhaps I can get it working from there. Many thanks Joe Kennedy. | Unfortunately I do not have accounts with any other banks so I can test your suggestion. I will however contact my bank to find out if they have changed anything at their end. Somehow I doubt it as I get the message that the file was imported to MS Money successfully, even though nothing appears there. Thanks for your post. Regards Joe Kennedy. | Sounds like your bank might have changed something to make the downloaded file incompatible with your old version of Money. Do you have any other banks to download from so you can test them as well. I use Money 2002 and at this point I can only use direct downloads from Citibank. All my other banks/brokers must have dropped support for versions that old. But I can manually download OFX and import files from every other bank or broker that I do business with. I doubt that IE7 is the problem. I use Firefox but I did upgrade to IE7 just to test it and that did not affect my downloads. If nobody comes up with a solution, there is one thing that might help. About every 2 years I format my entire main hard drive and reinstall my O/S and all software. This gets rid of all sorts of bugs, gremlins and other junk that accumulates on your computer and it makes everything work properly again - plus everything is fast again. This takes me a full day but it is a good job for a rainy Sunday. ![]() Regards Bill Wood "Joe.K" <Joe.K[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:0509C82D-D097-4C19-B696-09CF200E5151[at]microsoft.com... - quote - > Hi there, I've had a copy of MS Money 2000 v8 (on Win XP) for quite a few > years now, and until recently I've been happily down loading bank > statements > straight into money. | Hi there, I've had a copy of MS Money 2000 v8 (on Win XP) for quite a few years now, and until recently I've been happily down loading bank statements straight into money. I haven't downloaded any for a few months, so conceivable something that was downloaded or installed since the last time may be interfering. I have been automatically updated to IE 7, so that may be of concern. The problem is this: The act of downloading appears to go ok, i.e. it says that the statement has been downloaded successfully, however when I view my bank statement there is none there to click on. I have tried the following: 1) Download straight into Money. 2) Download to file and use the file/import facility within money. 3) Execute the MNYIMPRT.EXE from the run window, specifying the downloaded file. In all case it reports that the file was imported successfully, but yet it fails to appear. Finally, I did a reinstall/fix of Money 2000, but to no avail. The file type I am downloading is ofx. Would anyone have any idea what might be causing this issue? Kind Regards Joe Kennedy |
