| Cal, Thanks for your advice. She opted to try :Portfolio-> UpdatePrices-> PickQuotesToDownload She unchecked one stock to experiment with it's effectiveness before venturing on with the remainder, but the stock updated automatically even after she made the change in pickquotestodownload. After she made the modifications she closed the program and rebooted her computer. Later that day an automatic update occured. Suggestions? Kind regards, Bob "Cal Learner-- MVP" wrote: - quote - > In microsoft.public.money, maynardrf wrote: > > I'm trying to help my mother fix her 2006 Money program from afar. She may want to consider removing the Passport/LiveID from her file (File-> PasswordManager). Those will also disable the ability to do manually-triggered automatic updates from "third party"-accessed institutions. If she were trying to just stop quotes, she could go to Portfolio-> UpdatePrices-> PickQuotesToDownload and de-select them all. Click OK. I suggest you review her backup strategy, making sure that she backs up not only to her hard drive, but to a USB flash drive as often as needed to make a hard drive failure not too catastrophic. |

| Cal, I'm trying to help my mother fix her 2006 Money program from afar. She wants money to update the portfolio ONLY if she does it manually. She has unchecked "updateautomatically every ___mins" but still updates occur. Is there a setting elsewhere that globally affects portfolio updates where she can disable ANY automatic updates? Make your start page be the Account List with> "update accounts online". The message box indicates another online operation > is in progress. > I have turned off shopping links, ads, automatic updates and anything else I > can find, such as cash flow forecast on the home page. > Any ideas helpful now. Tools-> Settings-> ProgramSettings-> (Display StartMoneyWithThisPageOpen:AccountListand see if things speed up. While it is not regarding the start-up, I would clear Portfolio-> UpdatePrices-> UpdateAutomaticallyEvery__Minutes for better speed when entering and returning to the portfolio view. |

| It reaches out and touches mom every time it starts. I think it's looking for new ads and program updates and the like. M06 also reaches out to get quotes even if you tell it not to, IIRC. | EVERYTIME I start money 06, it takes around 1-2 minutes before I can do an "update accounts online". The message box indicates another online operation is in progress. I have turned off shopping links, ads, automatic updates and anything else I can find, such as cash flow forecast on the home page. Any ideas helpful now. Steven M.
