Consider yourself lucky. I'm attempting the same upgrade with the Canadian
Edition, and am having no joy.

Thank you very much. There was no problem with the Money 2005 disc. I
un-installed Money 98 and then installed the 2004 version to do the
conversion after changing the system date to 31 Dec 2004. I un-installed 2004
changed the system date back to present and installed 2005. It worked like a
dream.

There is some version--I was thinking it was M06 but could be wrong--that
requires the intermediate upgrade. See http://umnpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=180
but note that it may not help much the with the non-US localization aspect
of your situation. As to availability of M05 for Australia, et al, I don't
follow the international localized versions, but Glyn Simpson does:
http://money.mvps.org/. There are clearly issues here as the support for and
availability of localized versions has steadily declined over the years.

I have been searching this forum and found a number of people have had
problems with upgrading from older versions with suggestions to upgrade to
the Trial 2004 before attempting install later versions.
I am in australia does that cause any problems with avaiability etc as it
seemed to be a problem several years ago?

It's much more likely that the issue is that for some reason or other the
M05 installer/Setup is having bad karma with something already on your
system besides the M98. You might try installing the same CD on some other
XP system. Beyond that, I'm not sure of a solution. Immediately after M05
came out, a massive service update came out that "improved" a plethora of
"features". But you have to get the first code installed to update it.

Default money 98 to Money 2005

I have been running Money 98 since 1998 and have just re-installed the
program on each new computer since then. I now run it on an XP system and it
works fine.

I purchased Money 2005 Standard and tried to install but I get the following
message "setup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are
sorry for the inconvenience". I am not able to install from any of the files
on the disc.

Is this due to the fact that I am trying to update to a version that is not
compatable with my old Money 98 or have I puchased a faulty disc? BTW it is
genuine Microsoft.
