True & true. The equivalent in the account method is that it will> will show net income or expense. As long as that's understood, it may be > acceptable. > The transfer method does not affect budget at all. have a balance at the end of the month. Either way, the non-zero balance represents money not yet reimbursed. Seeing this is the point. |

| If reimbursements in a particular month don't match expenses, your budget will show net income or expense. As long as that's understood, it may be acceptable. The transfer method does not affect budget at all. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "Mark Horn" <mark[at]hornclan.com> wrote in message news:slrnesu31a.mt1.mark[at]home.hornclan.com... - quote - > I (effectively) do the same thing. I (effectively) do the same thing. I just do it in a single category> expenses. They're loans to your employer, in essence. > Create an in-budget account called 'Job Expenses' or something like that. > When spending money of this nature, categorize it using the special > 'transfer:' category, to that account. instead of in a seperate account. I use the "Job Expenses" category. My budget for that category is $0. I put my job expenses to it, and when my employer reimburses me, it goes to that category as well. At the end, that category should have a net balance of $0. If it doesn't it means that there's something for which I haven't received reimbursement. |

| I do not consider expenditures incurred on behalf of my employer to be expenses. They're loans to your employer, in essence. Create an in-budget account called 'Job Expenses' or something like that. When spending money of this nature, categorize it using the special 'transfer:' category, to that account. When reimbursed, categorize the deposit as a transfer from that account. Doing that will keep those transactions out of your budget. From time-to-time, reconcile the account to balance expenditures against reimbursements. Other users may advise a different method. -- Chris Cowles Gainesville, FL "Dave" <david.finley[at]gmail.com> wrote in message news:1171121337.077133.3750[at]m58g2000cwm.googlegroups.com... - quote - > In my field of work, I may get income for the month (expense > reimbursement) that can't easily be accounted for because it depends > on what travel and expenses I spend in the month so I've estimated an > amount and called it Irregular Income in Money. | In my field of work, I may get income for the month (expense reimbursement) that can't easily be accounted for because it depends on what travel and expenses I spend in the month so I've estimated an amount and called it Irregular Income in Money. When time comes to balance my budget, I come across personal items that went over budget and I want to reallocate funds and the perfect category to use when I run out of other expense categories is this Irregular Income but Money won't let me pick from income categories. Any thoughts for ways around this? |
