Put the files named *d1.mbf, *d2.mbf into a folder on the hard drive> totally removed Money from the old coimputer after saving the backup. Thanks > to all who have replied. or a USB flash drive. In WE (Windows Explorer -- not Internet Explorer), double-click the *d1.mbf file. That should launch Money and start the restore. When Money prompts for the next diskette, click OK. You will have a chance to change the location or filename for where the restored data will go. If this is a different computer, it is especially good to browse to a location. The old location may not even exist. |

| No, I don't have the old "mny" file but a backup (*d1.mbf and *d2.mbf). I totally removed Money from the old coimputer after saving the backup. | Reread the OP's message. S/he doesn't have a floppy drive on the new computer, so the standard method you propose will not work. To the OP: do you still have your old computer (or a backup of the data files from your old computer)? If so, just copy the *.mny file from your old computer to the new one. Money will recognize and open it. (Note if your file is transferred via a CD-R disk, it will be copied as read only. When it is on your hard drive, use Windows Explorer to remove the Read Only property before trying to open it). -- Peace, BobJ "Barry Schwarz" <schwarzb[at]doezl.net> wrote in message news:lvnns21eu1lbodds77rkenj7hatk8ahatr[at]4ax.com... - quote - > On Thu, 8 Feb 2007 06:46:01 -0800, Les A98 > <LesA98[at]discussions.microsoft.com> wrote: > > How do I restore a Money backup file that has been split between multiple > > floppies on my new computer that doesn't have a floppy drive? | Les- I don't have the answer to your question 'cause I hate floppies but read on for a way of avoiding the situation in the future. When you decide on a version of Money that you like, even if it has a backup to CD feature, try this for a bulletproof backup strategy. (I use Money 04.) I click on "BAckup file" a backup file on the hard disk at the end of every Money session. My CD burning software in Nero 6-something. After saving the Money backup file to the CD initially, each subsequent time I insert the CD, Nero recognizes that the file on the CD has been updated so it automatically queues the newer version of the file to be written to the CD. Click burn and the CD is updated in a few seconds. The old version is still on the CD but is not accessible. In a few months you will fill up the 9 cent CD and you start over. Be sure to render the filled CD unusable by scratching it up before disposal. Rewritable CDs are a better environmental option but they are much slower. Caution: only works if the file name and location on the HD are never changed which should not be a problem. My M04 files are now about 16 MB and will never get smaller. Backing up is an absolute must. The use of floppies is out of the question. I use 3 different CDs in a grandfather-father-son scheme for backup so that if one CD fails there are 1 or 2 that contain recent data. Hope this helps. | How do I restore a Money backup file that has been split between multiple floppies on my new computer that doesn't have a floppy drive? I tried to restore from both a USB and hard drive to which I copied the split files but Money 07 won't accept them as they are split. In the meantime I was able to do a Quicken convert to M07 but it lacks some of the info I liked with the previous Money file. Thanks -- Les A98 |
