I know little about Quicken so cannot comment on comparison to Money. There
are newsgroups dedicated to Quicken where you probably can get specific
questions answered.

I read somewhere that Q07 requires an update for compatibility with Vista.
I've also read that Intuit provides no means, seamless or not, to import
Money data.

OK, this problem remains and I'm growing weary of restarting Money 3-4 times
per session. No longer a college student with lots of time to spare, I've a
family a job and spending hours instead of minutes with my financial
housekeeping every week is no longer acceptable.

Trolls aside, can anyone tell me if the newest Quicken product measures up
to the functionality (when working properly) of Money? Any significant
issues with Vista? Any problems with a seamless or near-seamless transition
of data from Money to Quicken?

Thanks for your insight.

Not sure about Ben, but I have tried both standard and quick repair. Even
tried creating a whole new data file from scratch -- just for testing.
Behavior is the same.

Do you hear us, Microsoft? (Yeah, I know they don't really maintain a
"presence" on these forums.) Won't somone do something to ease this man's
suffering?

Hey, Ben. I thought I was longsuffering. You've been using it for 11-12
years? You're a better man than I!

I've been using money for about 11-12 years now and cannot seem to break the

I keep dim hope alive that "maybe next year, this thing will work ....
Microsoft cannot ignore it forever".

Oh well, no one really needs to balance accounts anyway, right?

Yup, my wife and I both have licenses for Money 2007 Deluxe. I run it on my
desktop and notebook under Vista Business RTM. My wife runs it on her
desktop and notebook under Windows XP SP2. Though we normally use the
software only on our desktops our experience with Money has been so dismal
that we have tried using it on the notebook systems, too. Money is
consistent on all of our systems, even though they are configured very
differently from each other. It crashes when we try to balance an account.
Not every time as in your case, but certainly often enough. We have to force
it to quit. Then, when we start up again and go back into the Balance This
Account feature we are notified that the balance is off. We allow it to go
through changing the starting balance and making an adjustment, and then we
delete both transactions.

What a piece of CRAP this software is! You pay for it. You download it. You
install it. You try to use it. It tells you you need an update (SP1). You
apply the update. You try to use it again. It tells you you need another
update (SP2). You apply that update. You try to use it again. It crashes
when you try to balance an account.

And that's the way it works if you're lucky enough not to get caught in one
of the endless update loops! In other words, that's about the BEST you can
expect. Tell me, Microsoft, is this -- like, you know -- the first time you
ever wrote software? Because most of the first-timers I've seen posting
software for FREE on the Internet do a better job than this!

Yeah. I know my post is no help, Ben. Sorry. I'm pretty frustrated by this.
Fact is that Quicken is probably (in its own inimitable way) just as bad. If
there is any enterprising software genius out there who wants to know where
s/he could break in -- just write a really decent personal accounting
package. People will stampede to your door.

I'm trying to see if I can just make do with something like jGnash (Open
Source). All of the fancy budgeting features in Money with their really
supercilious and spurious reasoning and explanations are just worse than
worthless. I bought the software (again) hoping that Microsoft would fix
some of the bugs in the previous versions I had owned. I really can't tell.
There are too many new bugs to cope with. Just the basic purchase / install
/ upgrade experience is bizarre enough. The team that "develops" this hog
really needs to get it together. My guess is too damned many marketing
"visionaries" are involved, and not enough guys who know their asses from
their elbows!

Default MS$ 2007 and Vista Ultimate

MS$ 2007 Deluxe fails to respond every time I try to balance a checking
account. Sometimes it crashes after I've entered the initial information
(closing balance, fees, etc.) and sometimes it hangs after I've completed
the balance pushed the "finish" button. It still uses about 50% of CPU
cycles (E6700 dual-core), but never makes any progess. I can have it shut
down and it comes back, but can't seem to finish this simple task.
