| OK, I think I found the answer. Once I entered all of the missing cash transactions by editing the corresponding investment transactions, the accout began working the same as the others. I think when you enter a new transaction, Money copies some of the details, like the transfer account, from the last transaction you entered in that account. So sometime in the distant past, I must have inadvertently cleared the transfer account box, and all of the transactions entered since then had no transfer account associated with the transaction. I've gone back and tested this theory be entereing transactions with and without a transfer account and the theory seems to hold. Thanks for your help, Cal. | All transactions, all dates, sorted by date. It's always been that way. The problem is not with the View Perhaps I should have written the original post differently. The problem I described near the end of the post, i.e. that the transfer to/from account box is blank, no doubt caused the failure to record the transactions in the cash account. If I manually select the cash account when entering a transaction, the cash transaction is recorded. In fact, I have since added the missing cash transactions by editing the corresponding investment transactions and adding the transfer account to the transaction detail. So the question is, why does the transfer to/from box come up blank for this one account, when for all others it's pre-populated with the correct cash account? BTW, I am aware that there is a setting to require that I populate the transfer account, but I'd still like to know why this one account behaves differently. So on the line that starts "View" you see what?Try Ctrl+T a couple times. Probably won't help, but it won't hurt. Open Money with Start-> Run and entering "msmoney -s" without the quotes into the box. If that does not fix it, try salv.exe level 2. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466/en-us - quote - > "Cal Learner-- MVP" <via_newsgroup[at]please.tnx> wrote in message > news:gf0ds2h48nm422t33vdac2haj9qa1m2qk0[at]4ax.com... > > In microsoft.public.money, Tom wrote: > > > > Using Money 2003. > > > > > I only use it for investments. | Already did that. The transactions just are not there. Try setting the View at the top of the register to AllTransactions.> I only use it for investments. | Using Money 2003. I only use it for investments. I have several investment accounts set up. Recently I noticed that one of them stopped tracking transactions in the cash account (but, sell, dividend, etc.). I checked the settings and 'allow cash transactions' is checked in the account details. The cash transaction register is there but the last transaction is from 2005. The settings appear to be the same as all of the other accounts, which record cash transactions correctly. When I enter a transaction in a working account, the 'transfer to/transfer from' box appears with the name of the correct associated cash account already in it. When I enter a transaction in the 'broken' account, the 'transfer to/from' box appears, but is blank. I have to select the cash account from the dropdown list. Why the difference in behavior? What am I missing? Tom McFarland |
