| I just wanted to post the end of this story. The end of this story is I have gone through several eschelons of Microsoft support, to the XP hired guns, to the Office hired guns, I have installed stuff, uninstalled stuff, done ALL of the suggested things in this and other threads on this problem, and NOTHING will make my computer install this update. The last suggestion was to reformat my drive. That is where I drew the line. I have spent close to three weeks mucking with this problem and in the meantime in desperation have bought Quicken (which I am not in love with, BTW) as a means to be able to recover my financial data. I have finally told Microsoft to close this help ticket as "unresolved." How can it be that a Microsoft ap produces an update file on a MS OS (XP Pro), MS suite (Office), and is the ONLY ap that refuses to install updates in spite of every fix under the sun short of reformatting the drive and reinstalling every software package on my compter (a task I would estimate would consume the better part of 2 months). Every other vendor's undate works. How can that be?????? "Ken" wrote: - quote - > Update: > I was wrong - issue is back again after rebooting my PC. | Update: I was wrong - issue is back again after rebooting my PC. I might try uninstalling / re-installing now. | Well - I don't know how but somehow this error condition has mysteriously vanished. I did do the following which might have 'fixed' it: -Deleted my IE files cache -Deleted my IE Cookies I had also been going through a series of Restores when trying to add my 401 Investment Account online so maybe that did something also. At any rate it is no longer prompting me to update. "wizard_chef" wrote: - quote - > As far as I know, the answer is "no." I wonder how wide-spread this problem > is? | As far as I know, the answer is "no." I wonder how wide-spread this problem is? There is some quirk with the way Microsoft is constructing this update file. I had to give up on Microsoft and move to Quicken. I cannot just put my entire financial well-being at risk while they get around to deciding if they want to solve this problem or not. After all, this is not gaming software!!! So, I have moved to Quicken, which I am NOT happy about. Quicken installed instantly, and guess what? They also have a download and upgrade installation following the install of the main program. It ran without a hitch! So, there is something peculiar about the Microsoft downlod. This is interesting. I am running MS XP Pro, MS IE 6.x, and trying to install MS Money 2005 or 2007 (have same problem with both when it comes to the installation of the update). Yet, I can install "3rd party" non-MS software just fine. Go figure! "Ken" wrote: - quote - > Has a fix been released for this yet?? |

| I am running XP with the latest service pack update, and IE 6. Girl_Friday, yes, I have even gone in, under instructions from a MS tech person, and nuked the entires in the registry for Money. I did a clean download and install. Same result. I mean, I have tried everything. Set up a new account in Money. didn't work. Did a clean boot in and tried new account. Didn't work. Did a clean boot and tried old account. didn't work. Nuked all the stuff in IE 6 (history, cookies, temp files). didn't work. Turned off every possible firewall and virus program. didn't work. Have Money 2007 as an exception in the XP firewall. doesn't work. I even physically bypassed my router (a pain in the tush, btw), and it didn't work. MS seems to focus on the download and the firewall/router blocking issue. That's not it. The stuff downloads (even tho' the tech guys won't listen to me). It takes it 5-10 minutes each time to download the files. Where it barfs is in the install .... with, of course ZERO diagnostics!!! Just says, "Can't install, try again ... are you connected do the internet?" duh. How enlightening. I may have to go over to Quicken, which I left about 5 years ago because of severe internet connection problems with my bank and brokerage accounts. I would just go back to 2005 (which I have had some issues with in breaking the data file periodically), but I believe 2007 uninstalled it for me! Pls let me know if either of you has any ideas aboaut where to go from here. tax season is upon me!! | Did you try to uninstall and re-install? I had done a system restore to a point before I had installed it & then reinstalled it & don't have the problem anymore. Good luck! | Will do. I have tried ev-ery thing! Tomorrow I will resume my chat with Microsoft tech support. This may drive me in the end move to Quicken (which I already had a bad experience with several years back) and eat an $85 upgrade. I'll let you know. | I am unable to install the update for 2007. Have used 2005 for several years, no problem. 2007 installs, then when it runs it requires a download and install of an update. The update downloads, then says it was unable to install. Have been on tech chat, phone with MS techies, and have tried: clearing cache, history, cookies in IE, turned off all firewalls and virus checkers, done a clean boot with only MS services running. Still won't install. Anyone have any ideas? |
