Based on supporting software with online updates, I'm still see a significant percentage of systems using Windows2000. Many of these appear to be non-business systems. What is the source of your statement that all WIndows2000 home users have switched? WIndows2000 is still under support from Microsoft (unlike 95, 98 & ME). Why is is unreasonable to expect MIcrosoft to not release updates to Money that exclude their own supported operating system? (BTW - Quicken's current version runs fine on Windows 2000) |

| Art's first paycheck should be in the mail after that post! I wanted to install the Money 2007 trial in a VMware guest virtual machine so as to not endanger my tried-and-true Money 2002 installation. But the VM is running--you guessed it--Windows 2000. The lack of Win 2k support has probably alienated a lot of customers. It's been clear for the last five years that Money is low on Microsoft's prioroity list. If some feature or backward compatability requires more than a bare minimum of company resources you can kiss it goodbye. We can only guess they're not making much money from Money. |

| Hey Art - there's a job waiting for you in Microsoft's support call center! | I am not certain if you are questioning Microsoft's decision or had not read the system requirements for MS Money 2007 From the Box and the Microsoft Website The system requirements are: To use Money 2007 you need: Multimedia PC with a Pentium II 266-MHz or faster processor (or compatible); Pentium II 300-MHz (or compatible) recommended. Windows® XP SP2 or later. Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later. 64 MB of RAM required; 128 MB of RAM recommended. 130 MB of available hard-disk space, plus an additional 200 MB while installing product updates. 2x or faster CD-ROM drive. SVGA graphics card or compatible video graphics adapter; SVGA color monitor with a minimum of 256 colors, capable of displaying 800 × 600 resolution; 16-bit color recommended. Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device. 56-Kbps modem. Internet functionality requires an Internet service provider (ISP); local and long-distance telephone toll charges may apply. Most online features require you to sign in to Money with your Microsoft LiveT ID (email and password). <blueridgepro[at]hotmail.com> wrote in message news:1169906002.687404.190260[at]q2g2000cwa.googlegroups.com... - quote - > What's the story, Microsoft? > Hard to believe that Money 2007 won't install on Windows 2000! > 2000 is still supported by Microsoft, yet their new Money version > rejects it. > I'm not buying XP, just to run Money. 2000 works fine for me on > several machines for all of my computing needs. > I'm going to run Money 2006, and start testing a move to Quicken. > Open source or Linux money software still has a way to go, so that's > out. | Surely you are kidding, right? 1) Microsoft does not follow these postings. It's almost exclusively user-to-user here. 2) Microsoft NEVER considered Win2k a serious target for Money users even when it was brand new. They think Win2k is for Business and Money is for Home. Though they may have officially said they supported Win2k, their real predilection is that Money users are home users and ran Win98 and WnME until XP was available. 3) Money uses latest bleeding edge stuff gratuitously. The odds they didn't use some XP-only feature (who knows which one?) in M07 are near zero. I'm betting M09 (if it ever exists) will be Vista-only. You got one thing right for sure: Responsiveness to customer need has never been a big part of Money support. | What's the story, Microsoft? Hard to believe that Money 2007 won't install on Windows 2000! 2000 is still supported by Microsoft, yet their new Money version rejects it. I'm not buying XP, just to run Money. 2000 works fine for me on several machines for all of my computing needs. I'm going to run Money 2006, and start testing a move to Quicken. Open source or Linux money software still has a way to go, so that's out. If not, I'd probably be gone from Money, and Windows as well! I can't imagine what feature that XP has relative to 2000 that is so critical as to make Microsoft abandon a significant part of the Money user base. Then again, responsiveness to customer need has never been a big part of Money support. |
