You could create an OFX file to represent a bunch of checks. What is
not clear to me is what is going to happen if you later read in an
OFX file from the bank that represents those same checks-- will you
be able to convince Money that they are the same checks. I don't
know, and I would have to experiment as you will. Was that what you
were asking?

I would think that feeding in the checks with a QIF file should work
fine too. You could consider feeding those in as new or recovered
account. To see what such a file would look like, you can
File-> Export the known file including some checks that are not
marked as cleared. Make a file with just a few new hypothetical
checks that are not marked as cleared. Then File-> Import the QIF as
a new or recovered account.

Keep us advised on your experiments.

The accounting system we work with is not very functional especially in the
cash management area. As bad as it is, it is integrated with the
purchasing system so it's not worth thowing away(yet).

Every check that is written by the accounting system (i.e. batch run of 200
checks) is then re-entered into Microsoft Money. I would like to automate
the input of the "enter an ordinary check into Money by hand." (per your
reply) using OFX files (or whatever works). The reason Money is used is
that future deposits based on job completion schedules are entered also into
Money with a future date. Money is then very useful for projected future
cash balances (and the accounting department won't give it up)

As you can imaging, there is a possiblity of manual errors when re-keying
200 checks into Money.

I would like to input an electronic file into money to simulate the entry of
the check batch. So my question is - can I change the "statement" file to
look like "check" input?

Thanks again for your help - I would have never gotten this far without your
replies.

I am not sure I understand the question. You can enter an ordinary
check into Money by hand. No OFX file involved. Only when the bank
gets the check does the bank put that info into the OFX file it
sends you.

For the benefit of others that may be looking for a sample of an ofx output
from a qif file. As Cal Learner suggested, I used the mt2ofx program
available at http://xl2qif.chez-alice.fr/links_en.php
Make sure you set the currency and date settings (OPTIONS ---SCRIPTS----> PARAMETERS ----> select your currency and date format from the
dropdown and click on UPDATE and OK to save the settings. Thank you Cal
for all the help.

Sorry for the the trouble but I finally figured out the currency message.

Although you probably already know this but for the benefit of others, to
set this,

Click on ----> OPTIONS ---> SCRIPTS----> PARAMETERS

In my case, I selected USD for US Dollars.

Also, what is the OFX difference between a check that is written (and
entered into Money) and a statement from the financial institute?
Everything I find on the web looks like "statements"

Thank you for the links. I tried the ofx converter thinking that if I
started with a qif file I understand, I could use it's output as a starting
template however it keeps telling me to set the currency in the scripting
properties.

You can get the specifications with some examples at www.ofx.net

A converter listed by http://xl2qif.chez-alice.fr/links_en.php might
be able to generate an OFX file from data you provide and thereby
give you your example.

Default Need to add check transactions to Microsoft Money using OFX file (not bank statements)

Does anybody have an example of an OFX file that imports check transactions
into Microsoft Money? I need to simulate the manual input of checks. Dut
to problems in our accounting software, it's best to enter transactions in
our accounting system and rekey them into MS-Money.

I found some "statement" files but I am thinking this isn't what I need to
do?????

I appreciate the depth and functionality of ofx vs. qif but I am finding it
difficult to find ofx examples since they all appear to be produced by large
companies (i.e. banks and financial companies)

Any help would be appreciated.
