| Then back to the original post. You say "with the latest 2007 edition I am unable to transfer the files to my laptop. it says to choose backup file but when I do it won't copy across." What is "it" saying to choose backup file on which machine and when is "it" saying this? Why is it that "it" won't copy "across"? What is the message? Where/from what is the message coming from? | Let's unwind the thread here back to the beginning. You say "with the latest 2007 edition I am unable to transfer the files to my laptop. it says to choose backup file but when I do it won't copy across." I'm not sure what you are really describing here, since you don't describe "won't copy across" in precise terms. But if backup files and/or different versions of Money are involved, you will probably have problems (backup) or assuredly not work (different versions). If you really want to edit a file on two machines, here are the steps: 1) make sure you have the same edition and patch level of Money on both machines. This is vital. Failing here is The End Of The Game. 2) exit Money on the machine with the newer copy of the data file. If you have a backup on exit, there are as yet mal-understood circumstances where Money doesn't really exit when you think it does. Make sure it's really not longer running. 3) copy the Money data file from the machine with the newer copy of the file to the other machine. 4) use the file on the other machine. 5) copy the file back to the first machine when that's the machine you want to use. | Do you mean that you are running M2005 on one PC and M2007 on another and can't transfer files between them? If so you must have the same version of Money on both PCs. The license allows you to install an extra copy of M2007 on a laptop as well as on a PC. -- Regards Bob Peel, Microsoft MVP - Money For UK tips & fixes see http://support.microsoft.com/default...d=fh;EN-GB;mny. I would close Money on both machines. Then use a USB flash drive to> data from one update to the next. Copy the file onto the MyDocuments folder, and open Money on the laptop by double-clicking that file using Windows Explorer. |
