That's not a deal that appeals to me. I always look for the one
that includes a free copy of MS Money.

Office Depot has TaxCut Premium Fed/State for $25 + $10 Office Depot cash
card + a free ream of paper (post rebate) + Symantec AV (post rebate? don't
know - didn't buy that).

Net cash out is $15 + the free ream of paper. Of course, there's the
aggravation of rebates...

Historically, I don't recall it getting cheaper. As we get closer
to 4/15, and people get more and more desparate, the deals tend
to get worse. The best deals have tended to be in the Jan/Feb
time frame. In other words, right about now.

The deal that I took advantage of yesterday was from Staples:

TaxCut 2006 Deluxe Federal+State: $24.99
Easy Rebate: $10.00 Staples Gift Check
Microsoft Money 2007 Deluxe: $39.99
Mailin Rebate: $40.00
Total (before Sales Tax): $14.98

Details of the deal from the Staples easy rebate site:

Staples gift checks are useable like cash at Staples. All
gift checks are redeemable only for future purchases at
Staples U.S. stores, through Staples catalog or online at
www.staples.com. Staples Gift Checks expire ninety (90)
days after date of issue.

Default TaxCut2006+M07Deluxe for $15 after rebates + sales tax, until 1/27/07

Well one week later Staples is offering the same deal, but $5 cheaper! I'm
glad I didn't open the software or apply for the rebates yet. I'm taking
them back and buying the cheaper deal (or getting a $5 refund if they honor
the cheaper deal). Wonder how cheap this stuff will get as we approach
4/15.

Default TaxCut2006+M07Deluxe for $20 after rebates + sales tax, until 1/20/07

I've been trolling for the best deal on TaxCut2006. Wal-Mart and various
other discount vendors have had it for about $25 (the Premium Federal &
State version). Staples has had it for $29.99 w/ a free Money 2007 Deluxe
tie-in, after rebate. This week Staples is offering that deal with an
additional $10 gift check (which you have to mail away for). Thus you can
get TaxCut 2006 Premium Federal & State, Money 2007 Deluxe (and up to nine
other software titles) for a net of about $20 (plus sales tax on the list
prices of $70 or more) after rebates ($10 gift check from Staples and $40
rebate from Microsoft).

Perhaps a better deal will appear before 4/15.
