Default Re: Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to r

Nothing worked for me. I had to go into the registry and manualy change the
permissions on all the

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Money.Document

including all the

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Money.LegacyDoc1

etc keys. This was tedious as I had to click on the key, get an error saying
it couldn't be opened, OK out of that error, click on it again and select
permissions, then I'd get an error that I don't have permissions to view, but
it will let me change the permissions, then through trial and error found
that I must ad my account to the security, give my self full control, then
before clicking OK or apply, click advanced and go in and take ownership of
the key. When i click OK there, it tells me that access is denied, and I am
sent back to the permissions page, and then I click OK. From there, I hit
refresh and it shows me the 'default icon' key below it and I repeat,. Then
move on to the next 'money.legacydoc#' key (I think I had 12 of them). After
all that, I am able to delete each of the money.legacydoc# keys.

I haven't confirmed that this did it yet, but that was the only way I could
clean up the permissions...

Ok, tried setting the local zone to default, it did not resolve the issue.

Tried the procedure in KB 927089 to reset the Windows XP security settings
back to the defaults(I am still not exactly sure what this did or what it
impacted). It fixed the issue, I did some quick tests of other apps and all
seemed to run properly. Knock on wood, hopefully there are no yet to be
uncovered issues with executing the "drastic" procedure in the KB. I was
able to install Money 2007, encounter another error, that was fixed by
another KB article. Hopefully all is stable now.

Thanks for the assistance.

OK. So going back to the thing that you don't want to try the
solution suggested in KB 927089 because it will loosen things up too
much. Here are a couple ideas.

In IE, set the local zone to defaults. That bit me in the past.
After install, tighten as you wish.

Save a Restore Point. Do what the KB article suggests. See if that
makes it succeed. Then restore to the Restore Point, and try the
install again. It seems like it could help, but maybe not. Even if
the second install does not succeed, it could be informative.

If it is Norton, people have reported success after uninstalling
Norton, Installing Money, and re-installing Norton.

I did not mention it but I did disable my firewall and virus scanner before
trying the install.

I don't know why .....

I would try creating a new XP administrative user and installing as
that user.

There is a money-back guarantee period.

Default Setup was unable to install some of the components needed to run M

I just purchased MS Money 2007 and tried to install. After MS Money attempts
to install I get the following message: Setup was unable to install some of
the components needed to run Money, try installing Money again.

In KB article 927089 it states the cause of this problem occurs because of
incorrect permissions in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry hive. The resolution
is to reset the security settings to the default values with a reference to
the KB article: "How to reset security settings back to the defaults(313222)"

According to the article summary, the article is a "step-by-step article
[that]describes how to set the security settings in Microsoft Windows XP
Professional back to the default settings for a disaster recovery scenario."

This resolution seems a little drastic and risky for this issue. Why would
think my security settings are incorrect if it is just MS Money 2007 giving
me any problem installing.

I am running MS Windows XP Pro SP2. I previously had MS Money 2006
installed, it was uninstalled the first time that I attempted to install MS
Money 2007. I have tried to install several times. I have uninstalled
IE7-released(previously had IE7 Beta installed) and then tried to install,
always getting this same error message.

I have attempted to address this issue via email and chat with Microsoft,
but, have been unable to enter a Product ID Number that Microsoft likes.

Any suggestions to fixing this issue short of the drastic measures listed in
the KB would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise I will accept the loss of my
$30 for the software and chalk it up to a lesson learned. Thanks.
