These messages means that Money thinks your .mny file is from a different
version. In fact MS released a major upgrade to the version of M2005 that
you bought.

You need to get this upgrade. Find your sample.mny file and double click on
the file name - that will start Money and download the upgrade. You can then
go back to using your normal .mny file.

Either open the sample.mny file in your install folder, or let
Money 2005 create a new Money file, clicking Decline in the
process. It will do an update. Close Money. Then open Money and
check that Help-> About... says you then have version 14.0.*.1105.

Then you should be able to open or restore your existing files.

Default Had to reinstall Money 2005, can't open data file

My computer crashed. Had to reinstall Windows XP and Money. Tried to open
my data file from the original file (tried to restore from a backup file as
well and got the same message) and I get this message:

Money will convert your file (don't understand this because I was already
running Money 05)

Money will make a copy.

Then it will upgrade your file to Money 2005.

When I click NEXT I get the following error:

Money can't find the file or cannot open it, possibly because it is a
read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive
is write protected.

PLEASE HELP. My life is in that file. I thought I was completely safe,
because I was fully backed up, but I get exactly the same message when I try
to restore from the backup.
