| Man, that stinks! That's both unethical and impractical. I'm really getting tired of having them try to rout everything through MSN and Live sites. I like having webmail and MSN Money options, but I hate that I can't download my MSN or Hotmail mail into Outlook without having a whole seperate set of folders for every account. I hate that Money is insistant on doing things through MSN Money. In short, I hate that the boxed products that used to work so marvelously when they were all using direct connections to their services, are now so bug-ridden because they are using jury-rigged website routes. And this whole "try getting a new passport ID" thing? Come on! They're trying to sell me on the whole MSN and Live package, telling me how great it will be to have all my addresses and calendars and mail all using one passport, and then they want us to dump it and get a different one just for a work around to a problem with their products? I hate the "work around" approach to things. Far too often I'm seeing companies give out work arounds to problems, and then just stop trying to actually FIX the issue. As far as I'm concerned, if something is broken, it should not be marketed as a selling point. | I have also seen Microsoft take this tack of requiring a new Passport ID. What it actually does is the easiest way to dump the data that they are storing and forwarding on their site to you. It can also be accomplished by manual methods of dumping the data on their site. I do not remember the exact details as I have made certain that I no longer have a Passport or use any downloads that use Yodlee or CashEdge. I will only run with Direct downloads. When I was researching this I found that often I could find the data correct on the Yodlee site and some times correct on MoneyCentral but not correct within Money itself. After spending too much of my life trying to help Microsoft debug this interface (while only talking to the clueless help desk people) I stopped Beta Testing Microsoft Money (both prior to and after it hits the market). I only use the features that work. The non-direct interface, although looking like it is a great idea, simply has shown that the design has too many flaws to be considered operational. I manually enter any data that is not available for direct download. This manual entry does on some cases take the process of going to the Website and downloading the OFX/GIF file. | Well, I had the same problem but things started to mysteriously work for me again. Here is what I did. I started a new file, set up one of my accounts. Online services worked. Then I tried updating again, because after setup it always started to fail, and it worked again! Then I Restored a backup of my real money file from the last date that I was able to get an update and tried to update and again it worked! Then I just treid opening up my real money file and do an update and amazingly it worked! Not sure if opening a new file and connecting did something to get it to work or if MS fixed something or if this is all just dumb luck, but I'm back in business again. Good luck to you! | I have exactly the same issue and have opened multiple cases with Microsoft with no resolution. I have gone deeper into the actual symptoms and I have to believe the symptoms are related somehow, in other words there should not be multiple bugs. Here are the symptoms, though in every case it finishes with the "red triangle of death": 1: Microsoft Money account update request takes the usual long time to complete with error and MSN Money has not updated account 2. Microsoft Money account update request takes the usual long time to complete with error and MSN Money has updated account I even sent Microsoft a capture file of the data sent between my PC and Microsoft, but they refused to acknowledge it. I am using XP home edition with Explorer 7 and 2007 Premium version of Microsoft Money. My last contact with Microsoft, they had me make changes to IE7 but it resolved nothing. They then wanted me to use a new Passport ID, which I refused to do. They then said they would close my case if I did not comply, to which I asked; what could be possibly be wrong with my current ID, as it works for everything else. And if a new ID resolves issue are you just going to consider the issue resolved. | Sorry if this posted twice, been having some issues. My accounts will not update. Whenever I try, I get the "red triangle of death" in the upper-right corner where the manual update button is. Under update summary, the accounts ALWAYS say "your account information is being updated, which may take a few minutes. If this message appears for more than five minutes, try again." It says this no matter how many times I try to update, and it never goes away, no matter how long I wait. I've also noticed that the account info on my MSN Money page isn't updating either. What's the deal? |
