| Mary, In my Money2007, all I had to do was remove a check mark. In Investing/Porfolio Manager/Common Tasks/Update Prices remove the check mark from Update Automatically (every 30 minutes). That way, I can control when prices or updated or just do them manually to balance to my statement. My problem with balancing to my statement is that Merrill Lynch reports the value of a CD by discounting it to the current date rather than using the purchase price. But Money insists that the current value of a CD (Certificate of Deposit) is the purchase price. Have you had this problem and were you able to fix it? Hope my reply helps you. | It is likely out looking for updates to its own code, to its ads, and to the service definitions for the FIs you can connect to. | DOH...well, you learn something new every day! I didn't even notice that I could do that. I think that should work for now. However, it still concerns me that I cannot control Money accessing the web. I don't log in under Windows Live ID (I think that's what it's called); I just log in locally, so I wouldn't think I would be getting live updates at all, unless I manually request them. I don't think I have background banking turned on. I don't use it, didn't configure it and don't want it but can't figure out where it is turned on or off. This is really frustrating to me. I've been using Money in various versions since at least Money 99 and every time I upgrade, it takes forever for me to get things back to status quo. Anyway, I'm still interested in finding out why Money is still accessing the web. Thanks much for your suggestion to change the date...boy, do I feel silly hahaha. Mary "Michael J. | Can't you just change the date on portfolio manager, upper right corner, to the month end date? I do it to balance to a particular day while getting updates every day. I don't see happen on Money Plus what you see happen, either.> 2007. Hope that doesn't make too big a difference. Sorry. This does make some difference, yes. I expect you to make sure that UseAutomatedUpdates is cleared. On Tools-> InternetUpdates-> CustomizeUpdates there is a checkbox to control Automated Online Updates. If the box is ticked, mnybbsvc.exe, the background banking service, is run. If you open a Money file where the checkbox is cleared, mnybbsvc.exe ends. You are able to select this even if there is no LiveID on the file. Consider removing the LiveID on your file if it has one and if you don't want to use the features that it enables. |

I enter that trade into Money. On 9/30/07, my broker sends me a month end statement, with a 9/30 settlement price. If I don't balance that account until 10/5, the most recent price in Money will be 10/5, ergo, I won't be able to balance unless I delete all of the prices back to 9/30. Maybe not a big deal with one account, one security, but I have at least 10 different accounts with at least 100 securities. | I balance to my broker at month end, using last business day of the month prices. With Money Plus, the prices update every time I open Money. So, if I don't get my statement until 3 or 4 days after month end, I may have 3 or 4 days of settlement prices since month end. Therefore, I won't be able to balance my account without manually deleting all of the prices back to month end. Does that make sense? I know that they are still updating even though I deleselected bythe Update prices box because when I click on a security and then click Update prices manually, there are prices in there from every single day, showing the source as online. Bottom line is that I want the option to turn off automatically updating quotes and updating them manually once a month. I was able to do this in past versions of Money and it really bugs me that, when you upgrade, all of your own settings go away. Thanks for you prompt response. | I would like to turn the automatic update of Mutual Fund and Stock prices OFF. I would rather update after I balance to my broker's hard copy statement. How do I do this? I notice that most of my funds have online updates from Dec 1, Dec 22 and Dec 29th. I installed MS Money 2007 on Dec 28th and have just started using it. Why are updates for these dates chosen? I had been using Money 2003 and had it set so that I could control when it went to the internet for price updates. |
