My testing is in an environment that would contraindicate.

I was getting the problem about half the time I closed Money 2K7. Now I do
not touch the mouse or the keyboard between clicking OK to backup and
waiting until all signs of Money have cleared the screen. I have never had
Money still running since I adopted that behavior. From testing with an
earlier version, it seemed that single-processor, none-hyperthreaded systems
did not have the problem. I think it's poor multi-threading behavior in
Money. Leaving the system alone makes it less likely that Money will be
interrupted and resume it's thread on a different logical processor. Maybe.

Money is set up to ask me each time. I don't have the perform scheduled
backup option set. I am not compressing the backup. I have the backup stored
on a network share. I do have a Microsoft USB wireless mouse.

Mine does backup on every exit. Sometimes I see it, other times I don't. I'm
fairly certain that it is somehow related to what you do while it is backing
up/exiting, but not clear exactly how. I haven't figured out the right
combination of what not to do. This is another one of those things like the
mangled display in tax estimator that lasted for many versions. You just
know they know it's out there and could find/fix it if they cared.

Jim,

As strange as this may sound, the solution I've found that works is
when I close Money: File > Close then in my case > Back up Now.

If I leave the mouse alone, do not move it and let money close, It will not
leave Money running in the backround.

Mine is a USB mouse, I don't know if that has anything to do with it
though.

Post back to let us know if it worked for you.

I already have it set up to ask for backups. I don't think I have "receive
account updates" set up. How can I be sure? When I click on it it says click
next it see ... if you enable this services.

I don't think that that has a single cause.

You might try Kimberly's method described at the end of
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...091d4b56d3017d

I let Money always ask about whether to backup or not. I remember
that somebody reported the problem did not occur if he let the
backup proceed before switching away.

I very rarely get that problem. I am not sure why.

Receive Account Updates from MSN Money My Accounts? I've certainly never
used that. But I still see the stupid Already Running several times a week.

If you don't need the feature, you could try turning off the first
item in Tools-> Settings.

Sadly, nope. I get tired of this happening as well.

Default Money already running

I got this message today from Money Deluxe 2007. I used to get it with 2005
and did a search to try to find a solution. None of the posts seemed to
address my specific problem. I thought that when I upgraded to 2007 it would
go away. Any idea why this is still happening?

Thanks,
Jim
