When you do Help-> about, it says you are running version 12 (Money 2004). Or are you running Money 2005 -- version 14.0.something. If it is 14.0.something, what is the something? It should be 14.0.*.1105 if it is Money 2005. So what is it? - quote - > Thanks > Brett > "Chickenlegs" wrote: > > I have recently purchased a new computer and installed Money onto the new > > computer (Money version says Copyright 2004, but I think it is 2005 version). > > I have then simply copied across the data files My Money Backup (Microsoft > > Money backup File) and my money backup2 (Microsoft Money file) to the new > > computer...For some reason I just cannot get Money to open the data files on > > the new computer. > > > When I try to open the Money file, I receive the following message; > > "Money will convert your file so that you can work with it in Money. | Hi Guy's I am having the same problems and I attempted to use the Sample.mny file. I was able to open that file but I am at a loss as to open my backup file. I am running 2004 version. Any suggestions? Thanks Brett "Chickenlegs" wrote: - quote - > I have recently purchased a new computer and installed Money onto the new > computer (Money version says Copyright 2004, but I think it is 2005 version). > I have then simply copied across the data files My Money Backup (Microsoft > Money backup File) and my money backup2 (Microsoft Money file) to the new > computer...For some reason I just cannot get Money to open the data files on > the new computer. > When I try to open the Money file, I receive the following message; > "Money will convert your file so that you can work with it in Money. | Dick Thanks a heap. Your second idea hit the nail on the head. I opened Money and commenced creating a 'bogus' new file. It then did an automatic update. After that I closed and re-opend Money and was then able to open my old file. Thanks again. | First, I'd find the My Money.mny file and get it over on the new machine. I'm suspecting that neither of the files you have brought across is the real data file. Second, it is possible that the M05 file on the old machine is really from a newer version of M05 than the M05 installed on the new machine. See http://umpmfaq.info/faqdb.php?q=177 for why this might be and what to do about it. | I have recently purchased a new computer and installed Money onto the new computer (Money version says Copyright 2004, but I think it is 2005 version). I have then simply copied across the data files My Money Backup (Microsoft Money backup File) and my money backup2 (Microsoft Money file) to the new computer...For some reason I just cannot get Money to open the data files on the new computer. When I try to open the Money file, I receive the following message; "Money will convert your file so that you can work with it in Money. First, Money will make a copy of your original file, then it will upgrade your file to Money. The first time you update Money online, it may take longer than usual." - I have no idea why it wants to convert the file as it is from the same version of Money???? When I do as it asks I then have the following problem; "Money cannot locate your file or cannot open it, possibly because it is a read-only file or you do not have permission to change it or your disk drive is write protected." I have tried different folders, uninstalling, reinstalling, different names, removing read only on folders and files, nothing works. I have about 8 years worth of data in these files, please help. |
